Default Tail bobbing

My budgie has rapid breathing though she is active eating and flying. But when she sits still I see her throbbing on her neck region. She is a year old and not in breeding condition. She has filled her nest with feathers but never interested in mating. I am worried what to do as I went to the vet and he said they don't know much about birds and they gave me vitamin drops. I have no other clinic for birds. Any home remedy to save her. I have seen some orange shiny thing in her left nose but maybe twice or so but then nothing. Is it contagious? Pls help. Is this the reason she isn't mating?tail bobs too but no noise while breathing

Sorry that your budgies seems to be sick.
It is hard to give advice, too bad you don't have an avian vet.

Is your budgie living in a flock? I would separate her from the other birds and put her in her own cage until she is better. I would also remove the nest. I assume you mean a nest box?
Keep her warm and hopefully, she will improve.

No she is not in a flock but they are a pair. Is there any chance of recovery. Any medication to be given. Is it contagious?

Sorry, since I don't know what the cause is I don't know if it is contagious.
Since she has been with the other bird all along you don't have to separate them now. But remove the nest box.

There are medications available for birds. But they can only be prescribed by a vet after a lab test. It is too bad that the vet you saw could not at least do some testing.

That she is eating and flying is a good sign.
I wish I could tell you more, but I just don't know, sorry.

When you say a small orange thing , do you mean a foreign object or a living sort of worm or mite?
Get some probiotics from amazon or via the net, take the nest out budgies do not sleep in nests only use them for breeding having it in the cage will encourage her to breed.
There are some avian vets that do consults over the internet google these and see how you go. It is very hard in a situation like this I hope you have some good luck .

No it is not a living thing. It's a bit shiny but I hardly saw it twice. I do notice that the nostril in that side where I saw the thing becomes small and at times normal but she is very active and normal.chk her pic. Hope it's clear pic. She has no interest in mating. I got her when she was 3 /4 months old. She has been with me for a year

This pic is taken just now and you will note that her one nostril is closed and this has been going on since 6 months or so. I wonder if that is the reason that she isn't gett into breeding mood. She is active and bossy. Whatever said and done they are adorable darlings

If she has a respiratory infection (which an avian vet can diagnose - try looking at your local pet shops / zoos / bird sanctuaries for a reference), then she will need antibiotics. Azithromycin is a good antibiotic for respiratory issues, but your vet has to give the dosage.

As others have correctly said, give her probiotics in the meantime. Separate her from her mate so that it won't spread to him (it's very difficult for infections to spread from budgies to you, except for psittacosis, but that has different symptoms). Keep her warm with a heating pad or hot water bottle on half of the cage and start a weight diary to see if she is losing weight.

Can anyone else chime in as to whether or not she has mites? There are pictures but I can't see them clearly enough to tell and am not familiar enough with changes to the female cere to be able to tell if her cere looks normal.

Is her nostril closing due to liquid (like a runny nose in humans) or because of a growth? Are you sure that what you saw that was "orange" wasn't a bit of blood due to scratching her cere?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but it can help us try to help you a bit better.

Best of luck!

I don't mind you asking questions coz I myself are new with budgies and would like to know and she is my darling girl. I am looking forward for her to breed. I see her nostril closed with a thin white layer the colour of her cere itself. At times it's open and normal and at times small or closed like the one in pic. The thing I saw in her nose was not blood for sure it was a brown and orange mix. It has been this way since 6 month or so. I will take her to pet shop where they sell budgies and chk.i don't trust their medicines coz they just try to sell expensive medicine even if dosent work I will let you know if they give me some medication so I feel safe before I give her. Btw she still goes into the nest and shed feathers and shreds wood so I don't want to disturb it in case my dream comes true
