Question Large amounts of urine in droppings?

Hi, everyone! Friday night and tonight Sammy has had a few droppings with very little fecal matter and large puddles of urine (with urates). It's about the size of a nickel. (He's done this before when traveling to the vet, probably from stress.) Perhaps it spreads out a bit more due to the absorbent kitchen paper that we use to line his cage. The urine doesn't have any color, and his droppings are normal in color (perhaps a bit light, but we've been transitioning to pellets over the past week, so I think that's normal).

The large amounts of urine might be present in 2 of 25 droppings.

I thought that he might be getting sick when I saw it on Friday night, so I've been keeping a sharp eye on him and keeping the heating pad on him. However, he's acting normal and playful, talking, still on his top perches, eating, drinking, hanging out with us outside of the cage, etc. He has a little less energy, but I'm sure his horrible molt has something to do with that. He didn't repeat the large amount of urine on Saturday or this morning.

He is going through a terrible molt right now both on his head and chest. He lost a ton of chest feathers about 10 days ago and now he has over 25 pinnies on his head and cheeks. Poor little guy. Could it be that the stress of the molt is causing the urine excess? He's not drinking excessively.

We have an appointment at the vet on Friday, and I will certainly mention it to him and get the vet's advice. If I notice any other abnormal behavior, I'll take him in sooner, but since he seems to be doing fine, I'll observe him for the moment.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you!

Actually, Mallorn is going through exactly the same thing. Her fecal matter is smaller, with large amounts of urine spreading out across the newspaper. She actually started a pretty bad moult yesterday, and so far has lost 4 primaries, 2 secondaries, her main tail feather, and so much down I'm probably going to suffocate
I think Sammy and Mallorn are both stressed from the moult! Tis the season, I guess

I hope me and Mally's favorite little budgie feels better soon! She sends Sammy lots of kisses and she says she can even have a bite of her red pellets

Wow! I didn't realize that could actually happen! Having budgies is like learning something new every day. Awesome

I hope that Mallorn gets over her molt quickly and that it doesn't sap her energy or make her bite-y. Sammy sends lots of kisses and he'll share his millet with her!

Some budgies do produce just urine others have the two part dropping. I would discuss it as you have suggested, As far as you can tell it sounds like all is ok.

Penry is also going through a molt and occasionally having big old nasty poops! I think this is just part of the molt...

I was reading through the horrible molt sticky on TB, and it seems that a lot of people report more liquid in the droppings around molting time! What's funny is that I probably wouldn't notice if I saw his droppings after drying on the kitchen paper, because he has a normal urate, but I noticed because it looked like a big wet spot.

Still observing, and he's still doing fine.

Glad everything's fine with Sammy, maybe he'll take a bath at an odd hour of the night to get rid off the itching!
