Diarrhea and can't get to the vet!
I haven't been on here in a while I'm afraid to say but now I really need some advice. Ever since yesterday Rio has been all puffed up and he hasn't unpuffed. His poop is watery and not very solid. He ate fine yesterday, I'm not sure about today though. I also don't know if he's been drinking enough. What should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also I can't get to the vet as its Sunday. This happened to when we first got Rio. His poop was watery and he was all puffed up but by the time we got him to the avian vet they said he was fine. Could this be the same thing? Will he get better on his own? Rio also had pin feathers on his head in case that means anything.:S:(

Molts can be very stressful for budgies.
Do you use ACV in Rio's water? It is a very good natural pro-biotic.

You need to be watching Rio today to see if he is eating, and drinking normally. I'd suggest you make an an appointment for Rio first thing tomorrow when your Avian Vet opens for a proper diagnosis.

In the meantime, make sure he's warm enough and give him millet spray soaked in electrolyte.
Hopefully you have it in your Birdie First Aid Kit?
"Guardian Angel" is a good choice.
Avitech products are sold by, Windy city Parrot and All Bird Products.

If you do not have the the electrolyte you can use Pedialyte or the following recipe:

cup hot water
3 cups water
2 Tablespoons honey (or sugar if you have no honey)
teaspoon salt
Optional: 2 Tablespoons Orange or Apple Juice

Mix the honey and salt with the hot water until dissolved
Add the room temperature water and juice and let cool to room temperature before using.

Good luck with Rio. Hopefully it is nothing serious.
Please give us an update after you talk to your Avian Vet tomorrow.

In addition to what Deborah said, I'd also cover his cage with a towel, blanket, etc., leaving only part of it uncovered to help keep him warm. You could also try putting a hot water bottle in with him that's wrapped in paper towel or something.

You have received the best first aid steps available. If you are feeding green veggies hold for a few days as they can make droppings watery. A visit to your vet to cover the what if's is a good Idea as many budgie illnesses start this way but are not noticed until budgie is very ill indeed. Probiotics are a good way to support budgie immune system to keep your bird healthy and strong. Blessings for a full recovery, Jo Ann:budgie:

Thank you I'm relieved to here this could be nothing but a molt. In case it isn't I will be taking him for a check up in case he doesn't get better. Thanks for the support and advice.
