Ellenfrancine is on a distinguished road
Default Very sick budgie, advice please!

I have two budgies, one is clearly sick.
His feces are blood red with lots of liquid around it. He is extremely quiet and is staying very puffed up. I have only had these budgies a matter of weeks and it's unusual for him to let me pick him up. He's so out of it I can pick him up no problem.
I've put him in the cage on his own for now but really unsure what to do.
Obviously plan on going to an avian bet but can't until tomorrow.
The other female isn't displaying any of these signs and is her usual self.
Very worried any advice would be great.

Hi there and welcome to the forums!
You budgie is in very serious condition. I hope he makes it and I'm so sorry you're having to go through this after just a few weeks!
Keep him very warm--raise the room temperature a few degrees if possible and cover half his cage with a blanket. Put a heating pad or hot water bottle near him. It's important you monitor his condition closely. Very sick budgies tend to not eat enough, so soak some millet in some sugar-free Pedialyte to get him to eat and keep up his energy. Keep him calm and play some soft music. If he has trouble breathing, you can put a crockpot with hot water and a few drops of eucalyptus oil by his cage and make a "tent" around it with a sheet so he breathes the steam. I'm glad you're going to an avian vet tomorrow, please keep us posted on his condition!
It's great to have you with us and feel free to ask about anything else you may be wondering about.

Very sorry to hear this. How alert is the bird ? Is he eating/drinking ? You need to ensure that he is kept warm . If he will eat, millet soaked in an electrolyte such as pedialyte will help with the fluid loss he is experiencing. If there are any emergency vet's near you, I would consider his condition an emergency and worthy of immediate attention if at all possible. Please keep us posted, and maybe some of our more experienced folk's here will add to what little I am able to tell you.

I hope your little guy gets better soon. If you can place food at the bottom of the cage, it'll be easy for him to get to in case he isn't comfortable on a perch.
