Default Emergency, please help!

Hi everyone, Tilda the diamond dove has been fluffed up and listless for two hours. She is barely moving, her eyes are closed, she doesn't respond to anything and we're all very worried.

She hasn't eaten or drank anything for hours, she was fine earlier. I think she's egg bound, and the vet is closed for the weekend and there's no way to get her to one.

We've put a steam vaporizer by the cage, turned the lamp to face her, and covered the cage halfway. Please, someone help!

My sister is frantic, she's experienced pet loss recently and I know egg binding is a serious condition, if that's what it is. Her only symptoms are extreme shakiness, listlessness, sleepiness, fluffiness and she won't perch. She won't eat, she's lethargic, and I haven't looked at her poop but who knows.

We have spinach we've been trying to feed her for calcium but she won't have any of it.
I really hope there's some of our dove people on here right now!

Thanks

Keep her warm, give her a millet spray soaked in electrolyte.

Egg Binding is the same for any type bird

Oh, poor Tilda. Hope she’s ok. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things if she’s egg bound.

Just wondering, why do you think that’s what’s going on? Is her bum swollen like there is an egg stuck there?

Thank you Deb, do you happen to have that electrolyte recipe?

I'm pretty sure it is, but she's really, really fluffy so it's very hard to tell. She's only semi-tame but my sister was able to pick her up and she has a tail bob. Also, I think this is the only thing that would come up so quickly, as she was fine earlier.

Take a look at the links above also, please.

Here is a recipe for homemade “pedialyte’

½ cup hot water
3 ½ cups water
2 Tablespoons honey (or sugar if you have no honey)
½ teaspoon salt
Optional: 2 Tablespoons Orange or Apple Juice

Mix the honey and salt with the hot water until dissolved
Add the room temperature water and juice and let cool to room temperature before using.

She's eating the millet soaked with electrolyte and we gave her some spinach shreds with cod liver oil that she tried, too. It's a relief to see her eating, we'll keep you posted

Mallorn's cross she's not getting so much attention.

Do you have any liquid calcium? If so, add a bit to her water.
The calcium should help with contractions to expel the egg.

Also, you may choose to very gently massage vent area with warm mineral oil if you can feel an egg.
Be very light with the pressure on her belly.

No, we don't currently have any liquid calcium, now I wish I had gotten some more. Since she's not super tame and it's really late over here, I don't know if an egg is confirmed, and my sister when she picked her up didn't notice a noticeable bulge. Hopefully she's okay in the morning, I read that most hens expel the egg in 24 hours in one of the links you gave me.

I'm sorry to hear this about Tilda! Poor little dove . I know nothing about what to do, but it sounds like Deborah has given some great advice. Sending well wishes and good vibes... Hope to hear a good update.
