Default Lost all feathers around bottom - please help

Hi,

My little bush budgie has lost all its bottom feathers. I dont know if it has plucked them or not. The area looks very red. When I spotted it, the bird still had a big lump of poo stuck to its bottom, so after reading forums and such I cleaned it under warm water and applied aloe vera (from the plant) to the area. I am taking it to the vet, as there is no avian vet around. The bird lives with another budgie who looks as healthy as ever. They live in a cage indoors and get let out to have a fly around every evening. they eat millet sprays as a treat but have access to budgie seed mix all the time. I was told to try feeding them vegetables and such but they ignore it. I don't know if they are boys or girls. I am very worried and upset. Will my little budgie be ok? am I doing something wrong? I haven't noticed odd behaviour as I have been out all day.

Hello and welcome Trista, it is great you managed to clean your budgies dried poop from it's vent area, this is what that area is called the vent.
Have you noticed the budgie shaking it's tail a lot recently or flicking it's head from side to side sort of looking agitated ad preening this area more than usual ? Sorry for all the questions but it helps with the advice.
Is the budgies poop runny and sticky or dried an hard? What colour is it as well, if possible can you post a picture of the area for us to see? Photobucket is free to download and easy to operate.
There are numerous reasons for this sort of problem, as a precaution I would g some apple cider vinegar but it must have Mother in it, place a couple of drops in the drinking water. If possible also obtain some probiotics from a pet store or vet. these also help

Hi Pretty Boy,

I took my budgie to the vet, and he had a huge tumor on his testicles, which had moved to his lungs, and so he was having respiratory problems also. The vet said she was unable to operate or save him any other way, he was too little and too sick. I had to put him down. Frankie was a very sweet-natured and lovely bird, and I will miss him terribly. Thank you for your help.

Trista

I'm very sorry for the loss of your little budgie.
If you would like to post a remembrance tribute to him you may do so in the In Memory section of the forum.

Fly high and free little one; rest peacefully.

I'm closing this thread now.
