Default Advice please!

My two kids (4 and 5) always see me misting Donnie with water. Today they misted him with lavender spray from bath and body works while I was out of the room. I immediately took everything out of the cage and washed it. I tried to wash Donnie but he yelled at me so I just misted him really well with water. He seems okay. A little quite but that may be because of all fuss cleaning his cage. I moved his cage to another room for a while too so the spot he normally is in could air out. Will he be okay, should I be doing something else, is he going to die? I'm really scared. Right now he's on his perch sleeping with one foot up. I also threw away that spray and the kids are in a lot of trouble. They aren't supposed to mess with him at all unless I'm with them to supervise.

I'd offer him a bath and if he doesn't like to bathe try misting him again later today to get as much of the residue from the spray off him as possible.

I'd keep his cage in a different room for several hours or a day to ensure that all the odor from the lavender spray that was in the room his cage is normally in has dissipated.

You can put his cage in the bathroom and run hot water in the shower to create some warm steam to ensure help ensure his airways remain clear.

Keep an eye on him for the next couple of days and if you notice any breathing difficulties then I would suggest you take him in to your Avian Vet for a check-up.

Thank you! Ill mist him again in a little bit. And I'll take him in the bathroom with me when I shower. He's playing and chirping now that I've calmed down. All the smell seems to have gone now that I cleaned his cage throughly. A bath seems to be out of the question. He has never fussed at me like that before. He got really upset and started angry chirping at me when I tried a bath in the sink. He wasn't having it. He doesn't like to be misted but tolerates it. He's acting normal but I'm still worried. Thanks again for the advice.

I would look at the bottle and see what the ingredient's are or keep the bottle handy. If he were to start having adverse effect's, the more info the vet has the better chance of helping your bird. It sound's like he is going to be ok but I just wanted to mention that...

I agree with all the great advice given above I hope he continues to be in good health! Luckily it wasn't serious and your kids will learn of their mistake hopefully without any adverse effects

How is your lavender baby doing at present? I have moved this thread to Follow Up as hopefully the danger is over and a full recovery will be the result.

He is currently sitting on me while I have my morning coffee. All seems well. He's still his normal feisty self. He was chattering away this morning when we woke up around 6am. The lavender scent is completely gone. I really think that me quickly cleaning his cage and misting him when it happened helped prevent a bigger problem. I may have to start calling him my lavender baby. Lol! My boys definitely learned from that mistake. They don't like when I'm upset and I was very very upset. In their defense, they truly just wanted to mist him like I do. I shouldn't have had that spray out in a place they could get to it. They're just little guys. They just wanted to be like mommy and play with him. They love him a lot and when I told them they may have hurt him they were very upset. We talked about it and they now know to ask me before they try to do anything with him. I also know to remind them of that occasionally so they don't forget. I was in the shower when it happened. Thankfully he seems perfectly fine. It was certainly a stressfull day though. I'm still keeping a close eye on him just in case. Thanks for all the advice and concern.

Are you aware your sweet little "lavender" baby, Donnie, looks like a female in that picture?
