Default Cat got budgie by the tail feathers. Feathers now fell out!

Omg my budgies were out in my room flying when I opened the door to go to the kitchen. My cat was sitting right at my door. She saw the budgies jumped in and caught Nemo by her tail feathers with her paw. I grabbed Lucy (cat) and threw her out of the room. Slammed the door shut. Nemo was flying around in a panic. All her tail feathers were on the floor! They were pulled out or something. I caught nemo and quickly put her into her cage to calm down but looking at the feathers there's blood on the tips and I tried looking at Nemos rump to see if she was bleeding. There only seems to be one feather stump bleeding.

I tried to take a pic but didn't want to stress her too much. I heard birds can bleed to death if they have a broken feather shaft but how do I check that?

There's not very much blood coming from the stump. I don't have any quick stop. What should I do?

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear of this accident...
Is your Nemo still bleeding? If so, you can apply some corn starch on the area to stop the bleeding. Check your Nemo to see if there is any scratch on the skin done by your cat, if so you can disinfect with Betadine.

From the video I see she completely lost all of her tail feathers, I don't see any blood nor broken feathers still on her, so it appears she no longer is losing blood.

This was a very scary and stressful situation, so let your Nemo rest and recuperate from the ordeal on her cage, cover the cage on 3 sides to provide extra comfort and safety. Offer Nemo her favourite treats to eat as this will help with the lost blood and hopefully soon she will start to feel better.

It will take some time for her to grow back her tail feathers, but she should be fine once the initial shock from the attack is no longer on her mind.

I'm sending my best wishes on a full recovery for both Nemo and Raz.
One can never be too careful when having a pet cat and pet birds. Hopefully something like this won't ever happen again.
Next time when opening the door, just open a tiny bit to see if the cat is around and it is safe for you to get out. Or whenever you have to leave the room and open the door, put Nemo and Raz back into their cages, this would be the best option in case they fly out the room and more cat trouble happens.

Hopefully It'll be okay, don't worry.
If it is still bleeding, like someone else has already posted, use cornstarch to,clot it. If you don't have any, run it in warm water. I've heard of birds dying of heart attacks because of cats or dogs hitting the cage and it falling, be sure not only to keep them in the cage when they are around, But to make sure they are out of reach.

How is Nemo now?
Wishing all the best,
Luna and Pina x

Hi, I was hoping for an update on how little Nemo is doing now.
I so hope she's recovered from the trauma and is active and happy.

Hey sorry haven't updated. Nemo is all good. Like Aluz said there wasn't much blood at all except on the tips of her pulled feathers. She did lose all her tail feathers but that was it. No scratches or anything. I was there and only saw Lucy grab Nemo's tail which then fell out right then when Nemo took off flying (she was on the ground).

She's all good now just looks funny with no tail especially when she's next to Raz with his long tail.

Thanks Aluz again for such quick advice! It really helped

Thanks everyone for the replies and well wishes! Nemo appreciates it
