Default 4 year old budgie has bald chest

I am new to this site so Hello Guys.

I have 2 budgies, Oscar she is 4 and oakley he is 1. This past week i have noticed that Oscar has been losing her chest feathers and is now going bald. Oakley is showing no signs of this happening yet. Oscar is a happy budgie and they have toys to pay with and are not in a draughty place or where they are being scared. Can anyone shed any light on it please as i have read up and could be lots of things but wanted some options?

Many thanks

PS don't know if this is the correct place for the post.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear of your Oscar's feather problems. Has there been any changes in your household that could have potentially disrupted/stressed your Oscar in terms of her behaviour? Does Oscar and Oakley get along well?

I'm asking this because from the picture, this seems to be a typical case of overpreening/feather plucking that your Oscar appears to have developed.

I'm not inclined to say Oakley did this, because when budgies fight and there is feather plucking, it's more typical for the ripped out feathers to be located on the head and back of the neck area and even on the face near the eyes.

In your Oscar's case, the feather plucking seems to be self-inflicted.

It would be best for you to book Oscar an appointment at a specialized avian vet, so that she is properly checked and you will get professional advice as to the best way in addressing this issue.

Good luck with everything and I hope your Oscar will soon regrow her beautiful feathers.

Hello and to Talk Budgies!

Oscar is very pretty--I'm sorry to see she's not doing so well! I agree with Aluz completely and look forward to the diagnosis. I'm sure she'll be fine soon!

We'd love to see some more pictures of your pretty little birds when you get a chance
Also, feel free to ask any other questions you may have as we're always happy to help!

Hope to see you around and it's great to have you with us!
