Default Badly attacked by Cat

So I was eating in the other room and I must've forgotten to close my door behind me or didn't shut it all the way because the car got in and I went to go get my water from my room and found the cat sitting in there on the floor and when I went in he ran out and I saw a tail feather on the floor so I looked at it and there was blood on it so I looked at Mazi and she has blood on her face! She had some on her beak and above her care there's a some dried blood and I took a little cotton pad with water on it and very gently cleaned her beak so her beak wasn't bleeding (if that's possible) but she wouldn't let me touch her head of check out her tail/vent area.. I'm sorry the picture is hard to see I tried bribing her with Miller but she keeps moving making it really hard to get a good picture (when she had millet before she was never so aware/freaked either it usually called her)

Update: I just looked through the feathers on her head and it looks like it might just have been from preening so it's not nearly as bad as I thought but I still can't get a good look at her tail/vent and I don't know if it has stoped bleeding. I have stypic powder stuff of i can see it and it's still bleedi my will it help to put a bit on the spot that's bleeding (if I can)

Also I called the only avian get close enough to me first thing after trying to look at her and they're all booked for tonight and they gave me a few numbers for other avians in the area but there's no way id be able to get to any of them fast enough..

And I realize now I probably could have initially put this in the emergency area but I was trying to post this asap so I wasn't really thinking about that but is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable and maybe less frightened

I'm so sorry that your budgie was attacked.Does the avian vet you called know that this is an emergency? And will they accept walk ins? If not, I would be going to the next closest avian vet you can get to. She will probably be hyper aware of everything right now. Number one thing is to try and get the bleeding to stop. Use the stypic powder to control the bleed, of course you can also use some corn starch. She really need to be seen by an avian vet.

I would call the avian vet back and tell them that this is an emergency. Definitely ask them if they accept walk ins, most vets do.

If both of those fail, I would really try and find the next closest avian vet you can and get there fast(but safe).

I've called all of the numbers of all the avian vets anywhere near me and they would all be closed by the time I got there. There are no 24/7 in my area that I could find or know of . I do think the bleeding has stopped but I put some stypic on it anyways

Should I make an appointment for tomorrow or will she be okay if she's fine through the night? Would they be able to do anything anyways?

Cat saliva is EXTREMELY toxic to budgies and you need to get your budgie to an AVIAN vet as quickly as possible.

Rinse the wound with Sterile Saline Solution,
keep her warm and quiet and give her millet spray soaked in electrolyte solution.
If she makes it through the night, you need to get her to the vet first thing in the morning as an EMERGENCY appointment.

https://talkbudgies.com/articles-budg...te-recipe.html

Avian Vets have special training to determine the cause of symptoms resulting from illness or trauma. This is important as "regular" vets will often overlook symptoms that are quickly obvious to an Avian Vet.
When you rely on anyone who has not had training in Avian diagnosis and care, you may be delaying effective treatment. This can prolong suffering that may be avoidable.
The bird will often require a more intense, prolonged treatment with a poorer chance of full recovery than it would have if you seek prompt professional diagnosis and treatment at the first sign of illness.

Distinction between an Avian Vet and a Vet that "Will See Birds"

I pray your little girl will be OK.

Please be sure to give us an update on her condition.

Definitely get her to the avian vet, if you can catch her without stressing her too much wipe her down with a damp cloth to remove any saliva. keep her in a warm restful area please let us know the outcome.

I did manage to wipe her down yesterday and I'll try to make an appointment asap I'm not home right now though but I put on a DVD show on in my room on really low volume as something so she doesn't feel lonely or scared with the quiet because she's the only bird I have ...

I also think the cat only got the top of her feather and just plucked it out as she move away and the blood that was on her face was from preening but I'm still going to make an appoint
Asap.. I'm just glad that it at least happened while I have the extra money because if it happened any sooner I wouldn't as my birthday just passed and I set aside all of the money I got in case of any emergencies (like this)

Do you guys think I should rehome Mazi if she makes it through?

It's great you have the extra funds and after this has been taken care of, I would do whatever I could to start an emergency fund for your budgie.

Save whatever you can as if you have cats and birds in the same house things like this will happen.
I know you are doing what you can to get your bird seen by an avian vet and it is so, so important you get your budgie there as soon as you can, even if you think your bird seems okay right now.

Also, please review the safety measures your taking for your birds future safety.
I know this is a terrible accident but with a cat in the house, I believe that it is safest for your bird to be in it's cage whenever you are not present in the room.
You know your situation better than we do so please take steps to ensure the future safety of your bird as well.

I really hope everything turns out okay for your budgie.

Additionally, if you think that you can not offer a safe home for your budgie, it would be a very mature thing to re-home your lovely bird, if you were able to find a cat free nice home for your bird.
