Default Fever!

Love the forum and hope someone on here can reassure me. My 10 month old budgie Spritz seems to have a fever. Last night I noticed her feet were hot but she was mostly acting normal. This morning her feet were still hot and she was holding her wings away from her body. She was pretty quiet but ate and climbed on my finger. She is in the midst of her 2nd molt and in condition which might be a contributing factor.

I'm at work now and worried. I'm going to leave at lunch (in 2 hours) to check on her and probably take her to the vet.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

Having hot feet doesn't necessarily mean your budgie has a fever.
It's normal for budgies to have warm feet, they get warmer when they are sleeping/napping and their lower tummy feathers cover the feet for extra warmth.
Is it Summer time where you live?
Was your budgie also panting (opening an closing beak multiple times) when you noticed she had her wings placed further away from her body?
That usually means budgies are hot/thirsty and for this you can offer your budgie a means for her to freshen herself. You can give her a dripping wet leafy green or a shallow dish of water for her to bathe in.

It's good that you will be taking her to the avian vet and hopefully your mind will be put at ease.
Best of luck with your budgie girl!

Hello there and to the forums!

I agree with Aluz, my own little budgie often has warm feet. If they have been particularly active, like after flying or playing with their toys, the blood flow to the feet is increased and it makes them warmer. As mentioned, she also could be hot. Even though it isn't summer, your heat could be higher than normal or the room could be absorbing lots of sunlight from a nearby window.

At any rate, it's always good to take our little birdies to an Avian vet for a check up and establishing a good relationship with the vet will certainly help to ease any worries!

Keep us updated on how the vet visit goes!

In the meantime, be sure to read all the stickies (or important threads that are "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on the best practices for keeping budgies

Hope to see you around, and if you have any questions after reading through anything, please ask!

Oh, and we love pictures around here, so if you have any to share, we'd love to meet your little budgie Spritz!

I'm glad you've joined us!

Thanks everyone. I'm home now and she looks and sounds fine. I didn't think there was anything to make her warm this morning but she's is perfectly fine now. I'm not going to take her to the vet unless she seems sick again, the vet is pretty close so don't worry she'll be cared for in a timely manner if she needs it. Really appreciate everyone's kind words. I'll add some picks of her in the appropriate thread.

I think having to go to work thinking she was sick made my worry 100% worse.

I'm glad you found your budgie girl in good health! It's also good to know you have a vet very close by.
Since there is no sense of urgency, I'm moving your thread to the Follow-up Center section.

I will be waiting for those pics as well!
