Exclamation Something wrong with her wings

Hi my name is Mali, I have gotten a pair of two budgies from a craigslist article. When I took them home and put them in their cage ( right now) i noticed something wrong with their wing. The pair of wings have been not cut properly the edges of the wings were cut i think there is a red on the white budgie, the budgie that i am concerned for is the white one, it has a red tint in her eye. I am TRYING very hard to find a vet that will take care of this but, I cannot all i can find is dog and cat veterinaries and the petsmarts are not safe. The only vet i think i could go to is a 1-2 hour drive into downtown. In the meanwhile what should I do for my new budgies, they are 3 months and NOT tamed. Please help me take care of this while I try to find a vet, they look like they are in pain. Best regards- Mali
P.S I have joined this forum due to my concerns, no hate due to my no prior knowledge of this website.

Hi Malii and welcome to TB.

First thank you for rescuing these two little budgies, it sounds like their last owner was careless.

Is blood fresh or dried? If you need to stop the bleeding you can use some corn starch. You will need to catch the bird first and then put some cornstarch on it.

Where do you live? (you can private message me if you are not comfortable putting your location up publicly). Once we know where you live we can hopefully help you find an avian vet.

I'm going to alert some more experienced members also and hopefully get you more immediate help soon.

Hello, thank you for the quick response. I live in the Ontario, Toronto, Scarborough region. I live in MorningSide and lawrence. I'm not sure if its dried or wet, its just extremely red. My family is saying "I feel like the bird order trimmed it extremely wrong and started hoarding birds" Right now we are all just letting the birds calm down in this new environment. Thank you for your quick response. I will let my household know of this technique.

Hello Malii, the birds need to be kept in a quiet warm area cover the cage partially. Try to be calm, if you are stressed the budgies will sense this . Seek out an Avian vet as soon as possible. I hope you find one soon.

Thank you. I'm sorry that I have no knowledge of a avian vet due to time. The best avian vet has relocated or closed down in this long time of me not owning an bird. I great-fully thank you two for helping. I put a blanket on top of them and they have seemed to calm down.

Hi Malii,

Check out these links and see if they are anyway near to you;

Veterinarian Toronto - The Links Road Animal & Bird Clinic

This link has details for an avian vet in Scarborough (scroll down a little and it lists the veterinary practices in Ontario)
Avian Veterinarians

Again scroll down to the Ontario region in this one

Hi Mali! Welcome to the forums

I'm sorry to hear your little ones have hurt wings. From what you described I agree it's best to have them seen by a qualified avian vet, and I'm glad you're planning on doing so!
Niamh has provided some great links.
As for your concern regarding your white budgie's eyes, are the eyes completely red (not outside the eye)? If not, I think she might be an albino budgie. Here's a picture of what albino budgies look like for reference: (Credit to Google Images)

I hope your little ones are doing okay I'm glad they've calmed down some after you covered them. Playing soft music for them can also help.

In the meantime, you should read through all the important "stickies", or important threads, which are located at the top of each subforum. They're loaded with tons of information to learn as much as you can on the best way to care for your new budgies!

You've certainly come to the right place to learn more about these darling little birds, so please do ask if you still have questions after reading though everything.

As for now, keep us posted on their condition. If you can post pictures, that would be helpful (and we'd love to meet them!)

Hope to see you around and we're glad you've joined us
