Default Need help with suspected kidney issues

Hi everyone, I got Chirpy from a pet store about two years ago and unfortunately about the last month or so he's been showing signs of kidney disease (pasting of the vent, watery yellowish diarrhea, constant scratching and feather plucking, eating and drinking more than usual, weight loss, sleeping a lot, weakness, etc.) He doesn't fly around as much as he used to and he seems like he's suffering quite a bit. The area around his vent and his chest is almost plucked bare. He was perfectly happy and seemed healthy enough until about a month ago. He still chirps and sings but doesn't seem to have the energy to do much else.
I've tried changing his diet but nothing seems to help. He gets his fresh fruits and veggies and fresh spring water daily along with budgie seed and orange blossom treat. There's a mineral block and cuttlebone in his cage, too. He gets lots of free time and was getting lots of exercise until he took a turn for the worse.
I'd take him to an avian vet in a heartbeat but the nearest one is over an hour and a half away and I'm not sure that he'd survive the trip. I'm trying to find out if there's anything I can do for him to help him without having to take him on such a long and scary drive.
I've emailed a vet and told them his symptoms. If they ask to see him in person I'll take him there ASAP but until I hear back from them I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read!

Thank you both for your advice; I sent an email to a vet not too far away and hope to get a reply tomorrow. If they want to see Chirpy in person, I'll make sure he gets there and gets the help he needs. I appreciate the support!

I just heard back from the vet! She suggested putting him on a pellet and fruit/veg only diet, and to make sure that the pellets contain iodine. Fingers crossed that another change in diet yields some results!

Good luck!
Does your budgie eat both seeds and pellets now?
Maybe someone with more experience will see your post and have a suggestion. I don't want to give any wrong suggestions.
In the health section is some really good information on knotgrass, vinegar with the mother and pedialyte.
The Pedialyte will help keep him from getting dehydrated.
The knotgrass and vinegar with the mother are good supplement for his diet.
Also in the health section us really good information that my help. I would post the links but I'm not at my computer.

Hi, Lisa

Welcome to Talk Budgies. I'm sorry your joining the forum is due to Chirpy's health issues.

I would definitely suggest supplementing Chirpy's diet with ACV and knotgrass. Both will be beneficial for his condition.
