Exclamation My buzz seems constipated

I left my budgie with my sister and her other two budgies because I was travelling a lot. Today she called to say he has been sleeping a lot and is not eating. also, he isnt chirping like he should. he is struggling to poop.we live in india, and finding an avian vet in town is not possible. we know a specialist and we take telephonic advise from him. he asked us to feed the little fellow a mix of lemon, honey and warm water every two hours. he pooped a little and his poop was water probably because he wasnt eating at all... he ate a while ago but still looks dull. he is playing with his other two friends but still seems dull. all this information I am able to et through calls, pictures and video. I am completely restless, I want to bring him back home but I dont want to risk stressing him out during the journey. I live 4 hours away from my sister. I have no clue what really is wrong with because until yesterday he was hsowing no signs of any illness of any kind. we give our birds a healthy balanced diet of seeds, greens and fruits.. any insight will be appreciated.

Welcome to talk budgies. Sorry to hear your little bird is ill. The lemon, honey, and water mix will help replace electrolytes and fight dehydration. Sounds like you feed a healthy diet, so you just have to give the rehydration a chance to help out. Make sure the vent area is kept clean. It would probably be best to wait and travel him when thing's are back to normal...

Hi! to Talk Budgies

I agree the mixture your vet recommended should help to stimulate his appetite. See if your sister can give your budgie some egg food.
Make a boiled egg, mix it with some cooked brown rice or quinoa (make sure either the rice or quinoa is rinsed VERY well before cooking it). If she has flax seed, mix a bit of that into the egg as well. If not, put some of the regular seed into the egg.
The protein should help boost his energy.

I agree with Jonah that the budgie should not be subjected to travel until he is fully well again.

Hi there and to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear that your Buzz isn't doing so well!

You've been given great advice so far and hopefully he has enough appetite to eat some egg food and drink more of the honey lemon water. If he seems more keen on eating, you can try giving him some mashed sweet pear or peach, a juicy sweet fruit that may also help him regain his taste for more solid food and will help him pass his stools if he's still having issues.

The links Deborah provided are full of useful information, too, so be sure to read through those when you get a chance and ask any questions you may have afterwards

In the meantime, be sure to keep us updated on little Buzz's condition--I hope he feels much better soon!

Best of luck!
