Default Xanthoma getting worse-to operate or not ?

Hello to all ,our lovely Princess has been managing well with xanthoma around her cloaca . She is on a diet with Milk thistle and she had been to the Vets few times when it got inflamed . Antibiotics would help . Yesterday I noticed the tumour had grown rapidly only to figure out that she is retaining feaces . I massaged her and she managed to expel it (it was LOADS ) Today I was waiting for her to poo but she is unable to do without help . I was avoiding surgery as the Vet explained that she may not survive anaestetic or the syrgery itself . Anyone had any good experience with a budgie undergoing surgery ? I feel that I have to decide ASAP but not sure if to gamble with a surgery . However , I feel we are coming to an end of options ):

I'm very sorry to hear Princess' problems are getting worse.
If it were my budgie, I would definitely opt for surgery at this point in time. I would also suggest adding Knotgrass to her diet as well as Dandelion Root.

I do hope your Avian Vet is able to successfully operate and help your little girl. I will contact a member I know whose budgie successfully underwent surgery and ask that she post on your thread.

Best wishes

I'm so sorry to hear about this stressful predicament you're having with Princess. As Deborah said above, I too would opt for surgery if your vet is confident to do it, or recommend someone who is. I know it's a risk on such a tiny body, but I would take that risk to potentially extend her life and quality of life. I wish you and Princess all the best.

I'm sorry your Princess' condition has progressed.

Fortunately, none of my budgies have ever needed to go through surgery, however one of my lovebirds (species only slightly bigger than a budgie) have successfully gone through surgery on her foot (partial amputation) and everything went well.
The avian vet examined her, saw she was strong and in very good shape health wise and that she would be a good candidate for surgery.

Having the professional opinion of a trusted avian vet would be helpful in terms of reaching a decision.

I'm sending my prayers and best wishes to you and Princess during this very challenging time.

This is an awful decision to have to make.

I can't help you in deciding what to do but I wish you the very best outcome.

Hopefully you have a well-qualified Avian Vet who will be able to explain the procedure before hand and let you know if he believes Princess is strong enough to undergo the surgery.

I'm sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers for your little girl. Please let us know when you have her surgery scheduled and keep us updated on her condition.

I'm so sorry that your little girl isn't doing well

If she were my budgie and there was a low chance of her suffering further with the surgery, I would go ahead and do it. If it succeeds, she at least has a chance of being better off, whereas the alternative (not doing surgery) doesn't allow for chance.

I hope that things go well, whichever route you and the vet decide is best in her particular case!

Please keep us posted! I'm keeping you both in my thoughts

Hello so sorry to hear of Princess's dilemma, I have had my Blue boy go through surgery to remove a large growth from his abdomen .I would definitely go along with surgery if Princess is strong and healthy as you say she is.
Blue has a much better life, he could not fly sufficiently before the surgery as the weight and place of tumour was a hindrance. As you need to help Princess defecate I also feel it would be in her best interests.
She is in my thoughts and prayers as are you .
