Default Please help if you can

I have had my budgie for over 6 years and have never noticed anything majorly wrong and therefore have never taken her to the vet but now I'm beginning to notice unnatural things.

I saw the other day there was poo stuck on her behind in the feathers and it looked to be a bit so I cleaned her. After this, it then happened the next day as well so I started checking around her behind and saw more build up underneath the feathers. I put her into a small bath of water and it seemed to all be cleaned.

A couple days later I checked her again and saw it had happened again and now she is fluffed up, her tail is down and the sides of her beak have begun to go white.

This is the first time anything like this has happened can anyone tell me whats going on and how to help her?

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear that your little girl is unwell! It truly sounds like she is very ill, and from what you've described, this isn't something you can treat at home and she needs to see an avian vet.

While you try to fit her in for an appointment, be sure she is staying hydrated and is still eating. Keeping her warm with a hot bottle wrapped in a towel at the bottom of her cage is a good idea, also.

Be sure to read through the forum's many articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care! If you have any questions afterwards, please do ask as we'd love to help.

I hope that she feels better soon!

Keep us posted on her condition

Hope to see you around!

It is important you take your budgie to an Avian Vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Avian Vets have special training to determine the cause of symptoms resulting from illness or trauma.
This is important as "regular" vets will often overlook symptoms that are quickly obvious to an Avian Vet.
When you rely on anyone who has not had training in Avian diagnosis and care, you may be delaying effective treatment.
This can prolong suffering that may be avoidable.
The bird will often require a more intense, prolonged treatment with a poorer chance of full recovery than it would have if you seek prompt professional diagnosis and treatment at the first sign of illness.

Distinction between an Avian Vet and a Vet that "Will See Birds"

Keep her warm and give her Guardian Angel or Pedialyte to help get her bodies electrolytes in balance.

Please be sure to update us on her condition once she's been to her Avian Vet appointment.

I second the advice above. Please keep us updated on a vet visit and her condition. Best wishes for your girl!
