Exclamation Vomiting and now making sad noises

Hello everyone! My sweet Daisy has been vomiting intermittently since friday and I have a vet appt at 9:30 tomorrow(Monday) morning. Tonight he started making a sad wheezy noise every 15 minutes or so and has some visible breathing. I wanted a second opinion on whether to take him to the emergency vet now or wait until morning.

another point to mention: he has been resting with his face turned upwards, he hasnt been sleeping normally that often

I am not an expert, but I want to reply to help a bit before somebody who knows more than me does.

One way to help with the breathing is to take him into the bathroom with the shower running. The steam will help him. Alternatively, you can make a tent over the cage with a towel and put include a container of hot steamy water under the towel as well.

I cannot answer about the emergency vet because of the issue of how much they would know about treating a bird. Is there an avian or exotic vet available there.

I am sorry to not be of more help.

Thank you, I decided to take him in as his little wheezes have gotten more frequent. He's in good hands now <3

I do hope all goes well with the vet. I think it was a wise decision to take him to the emergency vet. Better safe than sorry!

Sending prayers and healing energy for Daisy.

Please let us know how he's doing after the vet visit.

He is still in the ICU but doing much better! His droppings was tested for megabacteriosis and came back negative. His crop was full all yesterday and was not draining into his stomach :~( The wheezy noises was from inhaling some of his vomit. He was given oxygen treatment all last night and given a dose of antibiotics. This afternoon his crop is less distended and he looks much better! Daisy is going to stay another night and hopefully he recovers some more.

Thanks so much for the kind thoughts <3

Did the Avian Vet give you any indication with regard to what specifically caused Daisy's problems?

I'm praying your little one has a full and speedy recovery.

No, he got an x-ray to make sure he didn't ingest any metal somehow and had his droppings examined for AGY. He's home now but looks about the same :/
She didn't want to take a crop sample because his was so full, but I think we should do it. Is there anything else I could ask them to do? Also, what have you heard about apple cider treating gastric yeast?

My poor bb, I know when chickens have an impacted crop you can massage them loose. I feel so helpless ;;

Was a fecal gram stain done? I don't understand why a crop swab couldn't be taken. The Avian Vet should be able to determine if the crop is impacted.
Crop impaction is a serious condition. Has your budgie been chewing on ropes, cotton fibers, etc?

For information on ACV as well as information on AGY, please refer to the Budgie Articles:

You will find the appropriate links regarding AGY in this section of the articles:
