Default Rickey is sick

Im really sad to have this be my first post in a very long time. I was under another user name and cannot remember my info.

some of you Might remember Rickey and Lucy, well its been several years since she passed. Rickey got Tweetsum as a companion shortly after. its been several years now and they have been very healthy and no problems. The last few days ago we put Rickey in quarantine because be was a little puffy and just not himself. He has been separated for a few days now and isn't getting any better. Im trying to get to him to his vet tomorrow with any luck. O in the mean time we have been soaking millet in pedialite and adding a little to his water. He has a heating pad on the side of the cage, he has his birdie bread made with veggies, cuttle bone. I can't think of what im missing but so I need advice.

He is puffy and sleepy, he won't trill or even chirp, his posture is bad he is hunched and his tail is droopy. He isn't very active but to go eat and I saw him once foraging on the floor.
He is eating as far as I can tell and pooping well also checked his vent and its all clear.
I know you can't tell me whats front with him I just need advice till he gets in to the vet, its so close to Christmas im so worried we won't be abbe to for a few days.

My heart is just breaking right now 2 years ago this time is what Lucy got sick and shortly passed. I can't bear to go through that all over again.

Hi,
I remember you and Rickey and Lucy and when you got Tweetsum, sorry to hear Rickey is ill. The best thing you can do is get him to the vet asap. Is he still perching? If you are seeing droppings at least that shows he is still eating, do his droppings look normal? I would keep him warm as you are doing and quiet by keeping the cage partially covered. Is your vet an avian vet? I would want to make sure that the vet does a gram stain on the droppings and a swab on the crop and mouth. One of my birds has just gotten over a bad crop infection, she had been molting and was a bit quiet as they often are during a molt but I thought it was going on too long so I took her in to the vet and she had bad crop infection, 80% gram negative bacteria, which is really high, she spent several days in the hospital and 2 weeks on meds. I am telling this because she was not acting as sick as she turned out to be so don't waste any time in getting to the vet. Hope all goes well.

I'm very sorry to hear that Rickey is ill.

Cody has provided you with excellent advice.
Please get Rickey into an Avian Vet as quickly as possible.
If that isn't an option due to the holidays, then taking him to an Exotic Pet Veterinarian who has experience with Small Birds is the next choice.

Birds hide symptoms of illness and often times are much sicker than you may think.

Please be sure to update us on his progress after his vet appointment.

Sending prayers and healing energy for little Rickey.

Be sure you are keeping him warm.

To help with respiratory issues, you can put your budgie’s cage in the bathroom when you run hot water through the shower so the cage is in the hot steamy air -- that will help open the airways.

Another option is to tent the cage with a sheet and place a pot or kettle of boiling water under the sheet where your budgie is unable to touch it and allow the steam to accumulate that way. If you have pure eucalyptus oil, you can put one tiny drop into the water as that will also help to clear the airways so the budgie is better able to breathe.

Using a warm mist humidifier in the room with your budgies is a great way to help ease breathing problems.

Sending prayers for little Rickey.

He is warm and comfy. he is getting worse by the min. he is about gone. we said our good buys with the kids and let him be. he is in a box in my hat. he can't hold himself up anymore. he wants to move about but keeps flopping around because he can't use his right leg. he just went down hill fast. I don't know what else to do. Would it be wrong if I just held him till he passed? His breathing is about done. I hurt so bad right now. Thanks everyone for the support.

Holding Rickey and comforting him as he moves on in his journey would be lovely.

Letting him know you are with him and are OK with him moving on to where he is pain free and not suffering is a great gift to give him.

after my husband got home from work rickey had a little burst of energy. he was so very happy to see my husband. after that we all said our good buys and went to bed. Its 5:05 am here now and we think he passed after we all went to bed after 2am. He is gone and up in heaven with lucy. my heart hurts so much right now. He was fine 2 weeks ago and now he is gone. I'm sorry if i sound like a big baby. he meant so much to me. I feel like with his passing its the end. I got him and lucy first. It was rickey and lucy and they are both gone now. There is no more. when lucy passed it sent me into a dark depression and I had only managed to get out of that hole recently. Im scared I will go there again. I know he is no longer in pain and its selfish of me but why does this have to happen? On christmas eve too. I'm sorry guys i just need to get that out there. I don't know anyone who would understand the pain associated with these beloved babies passing. You guys know how special and amazing they are.

Thank you guys for your support and kind words Merry Christmas Everyone

I'm very sorry the pain you are feeling at your loss of little Rickey.

Rickey is in a better place now and you need time to grieve.

I'm closing this thread.
Later on, if and when you feel up to it, you may create a tribute or memorial thread for Rickey in the "In Memory" section of the forum.

I'll lend you,
for a little while, a bird of mine, He said.
For you to love while he lives,
and mourn when he is dead.

It may be six or seven years, or maybe only three
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, as all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this bird to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love - not think this labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take him back again.
I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, thy will be done.'
For all the joy this bird shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shower him with tenderness and love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

And should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
