Default Budgie with a crop infection

So my budgie, Reyes, was showing unusual behavior and wasn't being his usual chatty self. After taking him to an avian vet that was quite far away, we were informed that he was perfectly fine but he might be having a crop infection. He's also molting so I guess that must be making him weaker.

Anyway, he's on three different medications but he isn't eating at all. The next few days here are holidays and it's really hard to find someone to treat Reyes. Do crop infections take time to cure and do they go away after few days of medication or can they be fatal because he isn't eating anything?

Generally a crop infection takes time to cure but Reyes must eat and drink to survive.

Contact the vet via phone and explain the situation to him. The vet may have advice he can offer beyond what I've already given you about using millet soaked in Guardian Angel/Pedialyte.

Sending lots of prayers and healing energy for little Reyes.

Iím sorry to hear Reyes is ill. I would hurry and contact the vet before they close for the holidays. Sending best wishes, prayers and good vibes that Reyes starts eating a little and drinking.

I did contact a vet and I explained that I've already taken Reyes to another avian vet but he doesn't seem to be getting better. He said that the avian vet I went to is the best in the country (it's a government pet hospital) and that if their medication can't help Reyes, no one can.

That did hurt alot to hear but today is his fourth day on medication and I can see some improvements. He started eating and he has been drinking water as well as chirping occasionally like he used to when he was healthy. He used to mimic alot but I think he's not recovered enough to "talk" again.

Also, he's best friends with my cockatiel so when Reyes became sick we wanted to keep them apart from each other but the vet said we can still let them be together. However just to be safe we let Reyes be alone during most of the time so that he can get rest but when my cockatiel sees him he does this (photos attached) ever since Reyes became quiet. What is he doing?

Sheeta,

I'm so glad to hear that Reyes is beginning to show improvement!
The medication may take 10 to 14 days for it to have its full effect.
Knowing you saw the best Avian Vet in the country has to be a huge relief for you!

Your cockatiel knows Reyes isn't feeling well and his behavior is his way of showing his support. He's trying to comfort Reyes by snuggling up to him which is wonderful.

Sending lots of prayers and healing energy for a full and speedy recovery for your wee man.

xoxo

Great news to hear that Reyes seems to be improving! Sending well wishes to him for a full recovery!

Your pics of your cockatiel with Reyes are so sweet . We donít want to send the message to the general viewing public that it is okay to mix species, but these two best friends are adorable! Cockatiels are usually a gentle species.

Itís great news to hear that Reyes is improving and his cockatiel buddy is so cute. Hope his recovery continues and he is back to full fitness soon.

I donít yet have any, but Iíve been looking at those cement/concrete perches that you have in the photos and (I may be wrong here) I think you might have them upside down - Isnít the smooth side supposed to be facing up for the pads of their feet, with the lower rough side just catching the nails?

Julia is correct about the pedi-perches - you do have them upside down in the cage.

Oh my gosh!!! Really? This is my first time using them and even at the pet stores they hang them like that I'll change that right away
