Exclamation Kimmy vomiting

Hey everyone,

Everything was going as usual today until just now Kimmy suddenly threw up. They just had their regular seed mix and a bit of paprika (the inner part with the seeds) since they love that so much. That was a few hours ago. They have been out but haven't done anything they normally don't do.

Right now Kimmy ate some seeds again and stretched and preened herself, and she looks very tired. She is sitting and closing her eyes a lot. She is not puffing up much (might be becaue it is warm here) and she ate the millet we offered her too. She also moves around the cage and came out to see Jimmy too.

The vomit wasn't very liquid, it was a bit of seeds sticking together with some slime, just like it looks when Jimmy reurgitates for her as well. It looks like she is just having a rest from what happened. If I hadn't seen her vomit I would think she is just having her afternoon chill moment.

Right now it doesn't look like she will throw up again.

What should I do? Can it be a one time thing because of a minor problem? It is very pricey to get an avian vet to come tomorrow since it is the weekend, but if necessary we can do so of course. Since she is looking relatively alright I would like to see if I can do anything myself first.

Since Kimmie doesn’t seem to be having any real obvious signs of illness, it’s hard to say if she was regurgitating from behavior, as you’ve seen Jimmy do before.

You can try this: A good natural probiotic to help with digestion is to use organic, unfiltered ACV. Apple Cider Vinegar. We recommend a ratio of about 1/4 teaspoon per 4 ounces water. Although you might come across the ratio as slightly different if you hear it elsewhere. The reason is, unlike a drug, it is not harmful if the mixture is not literally to the milliliter exact. This can also be used if a bird who otherwise seems well, has some loose stools. FYI... This is not only recommended for birds, but it is widely used in other animals AND humans, for good health. I know people who drink it regularly and strongly believe in it. I’m tempted to try it too...

IF Kimmie still vomits after several days, the recommendation would be to take her to an avian vet. Best wishes for Kimmie. Keep us posted on her .

Thank you very much! We found this information on the internet as well and bought the apple cider vinegar and gave some to them mixed in their water (in those proportions indeed). I made sure Kimmy got some directly by feeding her some millet that was dipped in it.

Right now Kimmy is shredding her toy again and just hopping around. She seems back to normal, and I'm finally starting to feel some relief. I located an avian vet decently nearby in case something happens.

I'm sure she was vomiting though, she had no control over it happening and flicked it all over the place. I'll keep giving the apple cider in the water ever 2 days or so.

For right now, I’d give it all this week, or at least several days without skipping a day. All the best to you .

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the huge delay in reply, it has been a busy summer (we moved!), but I wanted to update here that all is fine.

I have been to the nearest avian vet with both Jimmy and Kimmy, and they have been thoroughly checked. The vet found that Kimmy probably had a starting crop infection, but he had to look really hard for it. Jimmy was completely fine. He also recommended the apple cider vinegar, and complemented the diet as well as the housing on them. He said they looked very good and healthy, so it is all good news!

They still get their apple cider vinegar every other day now and they are very happy. I will post later about the move when I have time again.

Love!
