Follow-up CenterThreads made in the Emergency Room forum will be moved here by staff as a way to follow-up with members after their budgie emergency.
This keeps the E.R. for only the most current emergencies.
Thats the right website but it was the female vet who was around and she is the new one so not sure if it is that trust-able. I will call her again at 5:30 to know the results of cutie's blood test and x ray hopefully the vet will answer this time!
Ask if you can visit Cutie if they want to continue to keep her and then you may get a chance to speak to the vet. If I have a bird in the hospital I go in daily to visit. It is not uncommon for the test results to be passed to the receptionist and then relayed to the client as the Dr. is usually busy with other patients. If you want to speak directly to the Dr. just let them know and you may get a call back when the Dr. has a spare moment. There have been times when I have had to see someone other than my usual vet but I have learned to trust that he does not have anyone on his team that gives any less care and attention to the patients than he does.
Thank you so much for your prompt advise, I got a call from the vet regarding her blood test the white blood cells seem to fallen extremely low perhaps due to her fighting the infection for such a long time vet has prescribed anti fungal and antibiotic together as it is difficult for them to say what is causing the infection(even after all those tests). hopefully they should discharge her tommorow. Is there something I can do after the course of meds to increase her white blood cells or immunity.
Thanks a ton talk budgies always helps me out with its useful advise.
Did they do the x-rays? Do you know if they have ruled out AGY (Avian Gastric Yeast/Megabacteria)? When you go to pick her up ask the Dr. if you should be giving a probiotic after the meds are finished. Low white count can be an indication that the system has used them up in fighting an infection, did they tell you anything else about the blood work, if they did a CBC that would reveal other abnormalities if there are any.
The vet said that she did a crop wash and couldn't find anything but didn't specifically refer to mega bacteria she also did a poop smear but they couldn't find anything on there too. However if they did a poop test for yest as well roughly how long do you reckon the results should come because when we had taken cutie to several non avian vets they said it takes atleast a week to culture but given the ppl in lab would do that not the vets makes me think that this avian vet didnt not do a poop test for yest as the results came within a day however considering they have an on site lab they might have gotten the results faster.
They did the X rays should be getting them tomorrow they didnt find anything there either. They didn't tell me anything else about the blood work except for the low white blood cell. All this cost £500 whereas mostly people are saying it should be around
£200 -300 and cutie was also getting meds through nebuliser and some vets even allow rentals of these in that price are the prices too high for these tests and hospitalisation?
If the vet has an in house lab the results of a fecal smear or crop smear will be same day. The fecal smear would reveal the presence of bacteria, yeast, or parasites providing the organisms are being shed in the droppings, a fecal smear is not the same as a culture. With a culture the bacteria has to grow and then it can be determined what bacteria it is and the best thing to treat it, so that takes time, the smear is just telling you what is or is not present in the droppings.
She needs to remain hospitalized so they can tube feed her, is she still in the hospital? They may also need to give her fluids under the skin if she is dehydrated.

Reason: addtl info
That is a lot of weight to lose in 2 days, please speak to the vet about it when you pick her up and ask if she has been eating while she has been there. 36 grams is an acceptable weight it is the loss of 6 grams in 2 days that is concerning.
