Default Tumor site scratched open

Ok, I really need some help. My budgie Lyla has a tumor, the vet said likely ovarian. She's on pain meds everyday, she got a shot of lupron at the vet to suppress her hormones to get the tumor to stop growing. I'm also giving her a drop of milk thistle everyday as well. So I'm all set with that stuff.

My big problem is that she's scratching her bump and it had started to bleed a little. I think she's picking at it with her beak too. I really need to know what to do here. I have no idea on how to stop or block her from scratching it.

Please help!

Tell the vet asap and they will be able to give you a tiny cone of shame to put around her neck to prevent her from picking at it. Good luck!

Is the bump actually the tumor or a fluid buildup? I had a bird several years ago with an ovarian tumor, you could not see anything from the outside but her abdominal area would fill up with fluid creating a bump and the vet drained it and once it was drained she was much more comfortable. If that is the same with your bird if it is drained she may stop scratching and picking at it.

He took an x-ray and saw a mass. I'm going to call tomorrow to make sure. I was told he would call me back, and he never did. That was 4 days ago. But yes, I really hope it's just fluid. But while we were there, he was pretty confident it was a tumor. But would she be acting somewhat normally if it was just a cyst?

My bird also had an x-ray and there was some type of mass which was determined to be an ovarian tumor. It was my understanding that the fluid buildup in her abdominal area was because of the tumor, not in the tumor, it may be a different thing with your bird.

Well, Lyla has a follow up with Dr. B on Monday, so we'll find out more then. We're trying to decide between another lupron shot, or a hormone suppressor implant. I guess we'll figure it out when we get there. I don't really want to say much on her condition because I don't want to jinx anything. She's no better, but no worse. That's all I can say right now.

Let us know how things go with the follow-up with the vet. Best wishes!
