Unhappy Older Bird Seems to be Losing His Toes

Hello!

My oldest bird, about 12, seems to be losing two of his toes. He has had trouble with mobility for the past 3 years due to arthritis. He doesn't get handled often but I trimmed his nails about two weeks ago and his toes seemed normal (for him). Today I heard him chewing on something and it was his completely stiff blackened toe. There is no bleeding but I'm fairly certain bone is visible. I'm very much in shock. Definitely going to be contacting a vet because this toe needs to come off. One toe on his other foot is dark and curled as well. Any advice welcome!

Does he have anything stuck around them? Hair perhaps? Or has he injured them in anyway?

Vets is defo the best option here though.

Not that I can see, he is banded and that has plenty of room around it as well.

I'm so sorry to hear this!
Please let us know what the vet says with regard to the cause of the problem.
Hopefully you are taking him in right away -- the sooner the better!

Thank you! We have an appointment Friday morning (they're closed on Thursdays) And besides the crazy toes he's chirping and eating normally so hopefully he will get through this.
