Angry Naughty Bird

Oliver and I have bonded well. Very well. He hangs out on my desk with me when I'm on the computer as I have hoped for him to do. However, when I am using my headset he climbs on my microphone. That in itself is ok. But he'll start to try to stick his head in my mouth and bite my teeth. He has succeeded and he has hooked his beak between my teeth and gums and won't let go! It really really hurts >:[ I do not want this to continue. But the punishment suggested to put him in his cage won't work since I don't want him to think of bed time as a punishment. It's already a fight to get him to go to sleep.

Birds like budgies and cockatiels are curious as well....Oliver doesnt seem to realize that he is hurting you..he thinks he's out exploring and likes your teeth the way my lipstick loves my teeth
you should use discouraging words like a firm 'no' when he tries to hurt you...or just pick him up and put him on your table or lap when he gets too close..
He will learn eventually that you dont like him trying to explore your teeth and he will stop hurting you.
I had a similar situation with my cockatiel. Id just pick him up and keep him on my shoulder. Good luck! and keep us updated with his progress

can you just keep mouth closed? lol I am sure he did not mean to hurt you. budgies do not have hands so they use their beak to explore. My oliver likes to rip off my hangnails so can sympathize

I would just physically move him to a different area still near you but away from your mouth. It will take some time, but he will learn.

Have you tried the tips mentioned here: https://talkbudgies.com/training-bond...-behavior.html?

Personally, I would have a perch set up for him by my computer. If he climbs up on the microphone I would then remove him to the perch. While you might be okay with him climbing on your microphone as this then leads to an unwanted behaviour I would put a stop to it at this stage, rather than trying to teach him not to bite at your teeth.

I am sorry to say that I think this is hysterical!! as these are the type of things that I run into myself and am glad to have company. Yes, I know that my animals pretty much run the place but I do what the others recommend and have had much success. The other option is to put him through dental school so that you can save on your 6 month check ups and spend more $$ on the birds

You really should try to keep your mouth closed when he's there, or don't let him on the hand set at all. Our saliva is filled with bacteria that can be very harmful to your budgie. I'm sorry he hurt you. Peatri once bit my ear so hard I thought he pierced it.
