Default DNA sex testing

Since we've been round and round about Oscar's gender (now female), I decided it might be kind of fun to get a DNA test done to see what that tells us. Not necessary, as this bird is not ever going to be a parent, but just because her cere seems to change ALL the time..
Anyway, Avian Biotech offers this service for $25. They send you a free collection kit, you gather the feathers, and they test and email you the result and follow with a printed certificate.
Soo... I got thinking about the FEATHER collection. Hmm.. sounds painful for the budgie and hard for the human. These feathers need to be pulled out, not cut, molted off, etc.

The point of the story and my question: The local bird store guy (who deals in parrots who routinely are DNA tested for gender) says for $30 he will send them a toe nail clipping, send it in and give me the report/certificate. He sees it as much more humane than the feather ordeal. I have to take my bird in and have him get a toe nail sample.

What do you all think? I think it sounds more humane, AND I think it could be really stressful for Oscar. I'm leaning toward doing it, but wonder if the stress to her is worth it ... Thoughts???
Thanks

I hate DNA testing because of how inaccurate it is personally. Any DNA tests I have run despite doing them perfectly as per directions, or birds I purchased that were supposedly DNA sexed as one sex or another, were completely wrong. Please do not throw your money away as well as your time on this, especially with a budgie who are easy to sex visually at maturity if not before

As Randy mentioned, sexing will be obvious within a few months at most by cere color alone if you are patient

Well!! I'm really glad I asked. I didn't consider inaccuracy as a major issue. OK... so if I just hang in there, Oscar/Ossie will resolve all her 'gender identity' issues and reveal her true color to me, yes?
OK.. I won't spend the bucks, then. I could maybe buy that really pretty little sky blue spangle baby he has instead ... LOL.. no more birds for me for now. He only takes rescues and this was a family emergency. Very pretty baby. I digress.
Thanks for educating me on this DNA thing. Appreciate your knowledge and experience.

We've been talking too much for too long for you to call me Jonah....you have to call me Randy now...

I can only go by what I've read, and seen with my own Hen's. They are like us in that development is a little different time wise for each one. One of my hen's had her cere go brown at about 8 month's, the other was about 10 month's...I really believe from all the pictures you have shown that you have a little girl...don't let us dissuade you from a DNA test if you really want to get one, just know that they can be inaccurate...

Ive dnad lots of birds with avianbiotech by both feather and blood and no issues. I fibd blood easier but im normally doing disease tests at the same time lol.

Pulling the feathers is ok once youve done it a couple of times you only need 3-5 chest feathers.

The guy at the shop would be doing a blood sample where you cut the toe nail slightly too short to get a drop of blood.

Honestly i wouldnt bother dna sexing a budgie. You can tell by the cere

Thanks everybody. I just got a wild hare.. I've been known to be a bit impulsive from time to time in my life . I will just be a grown up and wait... and Randy , you are right.. we've discussed this budgie's gender a lot, :deadhorse: and I'm sure you all are as accurate as the test
Thanks once again for everyone's input..

Judy,

We know that you just wanted to do the DNA testing because you were HOPING that it would prove Bossy Ossie Ivy is a BOY and NOT a GIRL!!
