Today, before we even uncovered Petey's cage he started chirping VERY loud! And for the past couple of hours he's been standing straight up and down chirping loud.
He's been getting more and more comfortable with us since coming home, and has started to eat seeds off my daughter's hand and enjoy his morning and evening millet treat with all of us. He still hasn't come out of his cage yet though, and doesn't want to get up on our finger. So we've been patient. He doesn't mind us putting our hand in his cage at all, so we just keep doing what he seems to be comfortable with.
But this morning he seems... upset? I'm not sure. When we tried his normal millet, he just continued to chirp loud and turn around in circles on his perch. Then he started flying frantically all around his cage.
He almost sounds like my little Freckles. Out of nowhere she will start flapping and flying all around the cage screeching her little head off! I think they need to let off a little steam sometimes. It could be out of boredom and maybe annoyance that they just can't fly all around when they please? I know with my girl, even when I let her out, she can't do much but fly to the floor and walk around, but maybe they get the urge to sometimes.
On the other hand, my parrotlet who is out a lot and flies all over the house makes a lot of noise sometimes and flies around in her cage for no apparent reason? LOL
Hello, it sounds like your little fella is telling you he wants to be up and about! budgies are birds that sleep with the day light hours accordingly. As it is light earlier they will wake up early. He will also be starting to associate you as his flock now and wondering where you are.
Petey sounds like he is doing fine, do you let him out of the cage for free flight time?
Has he got some toys to play with, as long as he is eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise like flying and running around and climbing millet is fine as training aid and treat.
