Default Rescue won't eat from dish

Hey everyone. As you guys know, I've adopted two rescues. I adopted Ziggy a week ago last Friday, who was found flying loose in a restaurant. He's an "average" wild colouration budgie and he adjusted immediately to his new home and accepts seed from my hand. I got Alice, a female blue clearwing (she looks too dark to be a sky), last Tuesday. She was rescued from an animal hoarder who was just going to release her into the great outdoors, aka Ontario's bracing -20C winter temperatures. It's taken her some time, but she's become about as well-adjusted as you can expect from a budgie who lived in hoarding conditions. Not to mention the fact that she seems to have imprinted on cockatiels, although she has been calling out to my other budgies with a very cockatiel-y call.

Okay, so onto the question. Ziggy refuses to eat out of his dish. The first few days I had him, he ate maybe a dozen or so seeds a day. I decided to try giving him some spray millet and lettuce, and he totally mowed down on them. He's been eating very well, eating his Swiss chard like a good boy and eating a quarter to a third of a spray of millet a day. The problem is, he won't eat seed from his dish. He'll eat it from my hand and from the bottom of his cage, but he won't eat it from the actual dish. He'll drink from this dish that is identical to it, but he refuses to eat from it. I've even tried filling it with with seeds that I liberated from a spray, but he still won't eat from it. Any thoughts?

Put a sprig of spray millet in the dish.

I put a sprig in yesterday, but he still hasn't touched the dish. I just took out the spray millet that I clipped to the cage earlier tonight, but he opted to scrounge through the husks at the bottom of the cage rather than eat the spray millet out of the dish. Hopefully by the time I get up tomorrow he's eaten from his dish, but I'm not convinced he will. I also put a glass dish on the bottom of the cage with seed in it, so we'll see.

As he is a rescue it is a hard situation to be in, make sure he does in fact have enough food on the bottom of the cage in the meantime perhaps first thing in the morning when he wakes as this is generally when they are hungry offer the food dish and nothing else. Perhaps start with a flat type of small dish and slowly work up to a feed dish. Also does he see the other budgie eat from the food dish? If all else fails I guess he is eating how they do in the wild

I have Alice in a separate room for quarantine. I'm hoping that when I move their cages to the living room once quarantine is over, the budgies will learn from each other. I think I might try replacing the glass bowl on the bottom of the cage with a plate if he doesn't eat from it. He better start eating from dishes, or else he'll starve when I put him in the aviary since there's grate on the bottom .

Alice, on the other hand, refuses to eat anything other than Dr. Harvey's seed. Half the seed I have to throw out because she will only eat the millet and rye (or whatever) in it -_-. Definitely going to try converting them to Goldenfeast pellets.

Oh! Alice realized yesterday that spray millet is edible. Must've been a bad situation since she didn't know what to do with the spray millet that was in her flight cage since Tuesday.

It is good Alice has found out about Millet, I am sure once your little one see's the others eat he will follow they are such clever little things and love to copy each other. One time I came in to find Budget had the other three all standing in a row next to him with their heads to one side like they do watching Him ( Budget) head bunt his ball around the floor LOL. they even had a tentative go !!!

Success! It looks like he ate some of the millet out of his dish. It's strange how reluctant he is to eat out of dishes. Hopefully my guys learn from each other. Alice needs to learn how to be a budgie, eat veggies, and trust humans; Ziggy needs to learn to play and eat from a dish; and my three others need to learn to be more tame.
