Default Help sexing

Hello everyone,

I really could use help in sexing my Cora who is a recessive pied. My wife and I have argued about the sex because I assume it is a male and my wife wants it to be a female and named the bird Cora.

We love our birds all the same, but for the sake of being correct could you help me identify the sex of Cora?

I have attached a picture. On the left is Ziggy Stardust and on the right is Cora (the bird in question.)

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forums!
That photo isn't exactly ideal to give an accurate guess on Cora's gender.
It would be better to take a full front shot of the whole cere/beak area and a bit more close up, if possible.
By looking just at that pic it does seem to me that Cora is a boy (I see a purplish cere), again a better photo will help confirm it.

Unfortunately I am away so I can't get a better picture right now of Cora. The only other picture is this one from my cloud storage maybe it is a little better.

You're welcome!
That second picture seems to have been taken with a flash and that can wash out the true colour on the cere.
When it comes to pied budgies who can be trickier to sex, it's best to take a good photo in natural lighting (no flash from camera).

Just from that pic, which isn't ideal, I'd say boy. But I could be way off because the pic isn't ideal for sexing. My Lily is a rec. pied and her cere was much lighter and had some blue in it. Hopefully some of our expert breeders will be along shortly to assist also!!!

Default It is so hard to determine

Now I can't wait until later to take a better picture.
The remarkable thing is that both of my babies are from Petco and I swear they were handfed. Both were finger tame when my wife and I picked them out and they seem to like being held after three days with us. These pictures were taken in the afternoon on day two.

I hoped Cora was a boy because I really do not want any breeding between them but hopefully we will find the answer later on.

Thank you for the info.

Is Cora's cere evenly pink? If so, you may have a Cory

With an up close pic of his cere, we can know for sure. He or she is gorgeous, along with your beautiful green male!
