Default Peanuts Breeder Band

Peanut has a breeders band on his right leg and hes just started messing with it even though he's had it for weeks... I've double checked and it's not on tight or anything, should I remove it? If so, how?

Thanks!

If you have as cage where he may get his leg caught on, then remove the leg band. If you have a very safe cage, then there is no reason to remove the leg band. For the first answer above, if you have a cage that he can get his leg caught on the bars, that is very bad.

He's in a Hagen Vision M01 (the single level?) with the horizontal bars. He climbs a lot inside the cage but I haven't seen him get caught yet. He's literally less than 2 feet away from me for about 12 hours a day so I do keep a close eye on him.

Would it just be better to remove it be safe? I'm assuming I would need some small pliers and a lot patience? Or would I be able to remove it with just my fingers?

Is it a closed band or open band?

If it is a closed band to remove it you will need a special pair of band clippers, which any avian vet would have if you do not want to buy a pair

If you try to use regular pliers to remove the band you could easily hurt him in the process since there is so little space between the band and leg.

With that being said though... if you have a bird safe cage (which you want regardless of whether your budgie has a band on or not ) then you should not have any reason to worry about leaving the band on

If he's just biting it, it shouldn't be a problem. Leg bands can be annoying. If you do not think it is necessary, you should remove it, because it has a potential danger, and is as mentioned very annoying.
