Default My budgie has escaped outdoors!

How do you catch a budgie on the run? One of mu budgies has escaped this morning. She is on sight in the forest at our backyard but dont come down to the cage I brought outside. She screetches all the time trying to find her mate. I dont have any other cage so I tryed to bring out the male in the cage but failed to catch her when she landed on top of the cage. I brought out the cage without the male but she wont come down. She is desperate to find the way home and she tryed to find the open window into the house but missed it. Cant she see the window opening with the huge tree branch I put pointing out with a millet spree on so she can sit on it?
I think she wants her mate most of all. Could I divide the cage with a net to hold the male inside with the open cage? Maybe she would fly in then?

I'm so sorry to hear that. The divider idea seems great! her mate is probably the easiest way. Leave he windows open in case she sees it. Trying to catch her might not work though, she might have to find the way herself. I hope it will work out, keep us updated.

Try to be as calm as possible when you are outside working to get your budgie back into her cage. She is going to pick up on your stress and that akwill only make her more nervous.

Take a soft cloth out with you so that if she lands on top of the cage again you can quickly throw it over her to help you capture her safely and more easily.

You can take a look at the links below for some additional suggestions:

I hope you will be successful in getting her back into her cage soon. Please keep us updated on your progress.

You are right, she want's to find her mate and he is your best chance of getting her back. Keep his cage out there so she doesn't fly further away and be lost for good. I like your idea of the divider but you would have to be extremely careful not to have him escape in the process. As Deb said she will keep coming to the cage and you need to be ready to catch her with something and not act to nervous or excited yourself. Prayer for your hen's safe return.

I noticed that you're in Sweden, so hang in there. Don't give up. She won't make it long in the cold.

Hi Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately she has flown away now
I tryed for several hours to get her to the cage even when the cage was just below her with the male she wouldn't come. But she was in sigt the first 6 hours, now she has flown away, I searched for her with my phone with a sound recording of her n her mate which she responded to and stayed near for but now not any respons from her. I guess she fled a bit further away and got lost
I will try in the morning again and hope she will find her way back.
I will never forgive my self for this, she is a victim of my idiocy

Hopefully she will return to the area and you will be able to successfully capture her in the morning.
Sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers for her safe return to you.
