We sent out the DNA test last week, but still have not received the results. Can you please tell me if you think "he" is a male? And what color he is? I took the photos without a flash in natural light. He is 8 weeks old and weighed in at 60 grams. He's half parent raised and the breeder finished hand feeding him. He loves to be petted and come for head scratches. He is already eating wheatgrass, microgreens, and sprouted lentils in addition to his seed mix (all those are organic). He will step up for anyone. He gives you wing stretches several times a day too. I LOVE HIM! He is curious about everything. He chirps and chirps back to you if you talk to him. And he will chirp here and there just grooming himself and hanging out. No name for him yet. I want to see more what his personality is like and confirm male or female. I have been going to visit him every day while he was weaning. He's hilariously happy and sweet. I mean, what Budgie doesn't make you smile, right?
I haven't named him yet. Since he was so young, the shop (which mostly sells other types of parrots, but from whom I got all three of my boys) said that the only way to guarantee that I had a male was to DNA test him, so I did. I'm not going to breed him, but will ask for more information on his parents for sure.
I asked them to ask the Budgie breeder which one of the new chicks was the most comfortable with the humans or seemed the most outgoing. And if it was yellow, that would be nice, but the least timid one was the one I'd be most interested in. He's so not afraid of anything. He is already playing with toys and is so cute I don't know what when he pushes a whiffle ball around.
Thank you for all of the great information. This site is wonderful for helpful information. It's also nice to know other people love these birds too and find them just as precious as I do.
Oh, and the DNA results came in this afternoon, and like all of you said, he's a he.
