Default New Budgie Tonight! Advice on Gender Please?

Hey, I just wanted to announce that I have decided to get a little friend for my Calypso! I ran it through my parents, and we will be purchasing him this evening. We are going to *try* to get a boy. I'm pretty sure that I would be able to tell if it is a female or a male. I am very excited to be getting this other budgie. I will be putting him in another room and cage for a while for quarantine and so that I can continue taming Calypso and start taming him separately. I'll be putting them together in the larger cage in about a month! I am very excited!

I'll be sure to post photos ASAP!

Any advice in making sure that I get a boy? Most of the budgies there are under 6 months... thanks

I'd suggest you review the attached threads for help in ensuring you choose a male.

Some budgies are easy to tell the gender off, others are kinda impossible. You really want a boy, so I advice you to post pictures of the budgie here before you adopt it. Let the experts tell you, because even after I thought I had started to get a grip on it after years of seeing babies, I still make mistakes. There is a general rule, but there are always exceptions.

When you choose, be sure to pick mostly based on temperament and gender, not on appearance. Remember what you came for, even though you see a beautiful little girl in the corner. All budgies are beautiful, and I have even come to love the mutations I thought I didn't like. The only ones I try to avoid, is budgies with the same mutation as previous ones. It.. Gets weird for me. My sister bought a dominant pied (sf) boy in green series, while I had a blue series, same mutations who died for not so long ago. It took me weeks to not see him as my old boy with a green filter.

You should also buy from a breeder, because the budgies are often more healthy, easier to tame etc. Plus, the breeder can help you find a boy. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Cal together, be sure to post a lot of pictures

Good luck on the search and the adoption

Thank you all! I just got back from purchasing a new budgie! We have named him "Leonardo Amadeus Bent" or Leo for short! He is a very cute turquoise teal color, and he is settling in nicely. I'll post a thread in Sexing Budgies to see if he is indeed a boy, I'm pretty sure he is, but of course I could be wrong! He was pretty funny on the ride home. He chirped a bit, and was running around his box. I'm sure he will be lots of fun!

Default Sexing my new budgie! Help, please

Hello, I just got a new budgie today. I'm not really sure what gender they are, so I would LOVE some help in determining that. Thank you so much, and please let me know if I should get a better picture.

I'm very excited to find out!
