Here's a short tale
We had friends come over just last Sunday for breakfast. We've been friends for almost five years, and they are the owners of that one Amazon parrot who is bonded to me (I'll try to elaborate this in another post) and who have had budgies and tiels in the past. Anyway, they're great friends.
She told us over breakfast that when she lived in Turkey, her mother in law had a little blue budgie.
This budgie loved people, was very tame, and also had a very
This little blue boy loved to smoke cigarettes.
Apparently, his owner (by the way, this was in like 1980-something so nobody knew that cigarettes were toxic to animals or people) would grind her cigarette in the ashtray, and while it was still smoking, the budgie would fly from his perch and actually inhale the smoke, then close his eyes and blow it out through his nostrils
Apparently, this was a normal thing.
At any rate, the budgie presumably died when he was five or six, probably from lung cancer!
Moral of the story: Please NO SMOKING in the home, especially with budgies! (or any animals, or children)
I know this story was hilarious but, sadly, some people don't think about the health of their birds when doing their daily activities!
