Hi there, as some of you know Blue has been with us nearly a year now. He became tame, seems happy, healthy and has always been interested in interacting with the family. However, the last couple of months he's started to bite and has lost the bond between him and my eldest son. Both my boys are scared of him now which is quite upsetting. I think it may have started due to moult/sexual frustration? But it has certainly turned into a habit now. I have been spending plenty of time talking to him, but hiding my hands so as he can't land on me and bite me, thinking the avoidance would help after a spell, but it hasn't. I have read one of the stickies and think having a wooden spoon handy so next time he's on my hand and bites I can use the handle as a perch to get him to step up on but I wonder if this plastic bird toy on a spring may be promoting this behaviour. It started shortly after giving it to him and he is often trying to mount it, should I lose the toy? He does love it very much...maybe too much. Thanks for listening, I would love to hear any advice.
Not much I can add to that great info. If you think the toy started the issue or is part of it, maybe you should try weaning him off it, only having it in his cage a couple times a day for short play period's. Hopefully some of our folk's here can offer you more opinion/advice.
He came down from Heaven unto this earth below
He came down from glory and praises untold
He came down to man fashioned in their way
He came down to rescue, He came down to save
