Default What's your Budgies' favorite beak exercising

/trimming toy? Mine like those soft balsa wood kabobs, but I'm wondering if there's something a bit harder to help keep their beaks trimmed? I have different natural wood branches and they just don't chew on them. I have the same types in my parrotlets' cage and they chew them. But not the Budgies. Thank you.

Harry: Whatever bought wooden toys/ladders/rings I have in the budgie room. Using anything of naturally grown wood? No thank you, Harry will chew up the most expensive piece he can find.
Wellington: Doesn't care, so long as it is blue.
Everyone else likes fresh branches from my parents' garden.

My birds love chewing and rubbing their beaks on the calcium perches:
Cuttlebone Calcium Bird Perch

I also have beak buffers in all the cages they will bite at and chew.
Bird Beak Conditioners: Polly's Pet Products Coral Beak Buffer

I did remove the fabric pieces from the buffers before placing them in the cages though as I didn't want my birds chewing on the fibers and ingesting them.

They also love chewing on grapevine perches:
All Living Things® Grape Bird Perch | Perches | PetSmart

And I have little wicker swings in all the cages that they sit on, talk to and happily chew! I bought them in the craft department at Michaels:

Indigo loves chewing his health bells and he loves to also chew his Native branch he sits on it is to sharpen his beak. He also climbs upside down on the bars and rubs his head and also again chews at the Native branch... I have a strange boy but he is so funny...

Mallorn loves her cuttlebone and mineral block, both of which she rarely eats but instead works on tearing it up and throwing it at me.
Also, she has this great "edible perch" I found made of natural, budgie-digestible fibers, and she'll attack that for hours, making the most awful scraping noise

Oooh, StarlingWings, do you have a link to that edible perch? Sounds like something I would like to try for my boys.

Chewing is where I most see the importance of rotating items in and out of their cage. They'll go through a kabob in a couple weeks, but then ignore the replacement for months. When I first got Duke and Ziggy, they destroyed a cuttlebone in record time, but even though I keep one in the cage all the time, I've barely seen any of them go near it in a year. (Of course, that may have more to do with an improved diet....)

It's a tricky balance. They're deeply suspicious of any new — or even moved — item in their cage, but at the same time, once they do finally start engaging with something in their environment, when they're done, they're DONE. It's a challenge to keep them engaged without making them feel unsafe or unsettled in their home.

Sammy loves loves LOVES wicker toys. He destroys them in a matter of days. It probably won't help with beak growth but it's a lot of fun.

My budgie mostly likes the palm leaf and vine toys- they are crunchy and fun. I can't seem to get her to go after the harder wood or coconut pieces in her cage.

But she does use the calcium perch and I recommend that (I like the Prevue Pets kind)- I installed it between her food and water cups, so she will jump on and go at it after a good meal.

It's a great perch and Mallorn loves it, it's wide and stretches her feet, has a rough-ish surface to buff her feet, and plus she can eat it.
Definitely princess approved!
Oh, and she's had it for over a year and she has barely made a dent, it's not easily destructible
