How exciting! I'm sure Sky will love to have a new friend. Do remember, in all the excitement, that a 4- to 6-week quarantine is tremendously important for the health of your bird: https://talkbudgies.com/new-budgie-ar...ntine-yes.html

Have you already picked out your new bird? Tell us more!

I would personally go for a male if you have an even number of budgies right now, or if you have an odd number, go for the sex that will even it out males to females. It's not a good idea to have more females than males in one cage as a general rule (but of course there are some very sweet females)

I hope that you find a lovely budgie, and we can't wait to see pictures!

Personally, if I were you, I would get another male.

If you get a male, he and Sky will end up being best buddies and you'll never have to worry about needing to separate the two budgies if discouraging eggs isn't enough to keep them from breeding.

I have all male budgies and it works wonderfully for me.

You could always take a picture of the one you are interested in - Full Frontal view clearly showing the cere - and post it to the forum before making your "final" decision.

If you have a color printer, you could also print out some of the pictures from the threads linked below to help you...
