Default Seeds Question

Hi, I've heard from some people that in order to get the hulled seed shells out of their budgie's food dish they blow on it. How do you do this without the seed bits just flying all over the place?

If for some reason I'm not dumping the old food, I'll shake the dish a little to get all the heavier seeds to sink under the light empty hulls, and very gently blow across the top (not into the dish) over the garbage can to get rid of the empty shells.

The first couple times I did the 'gently blowing' thing, it came right back in my face.. After a trial and error period, it now works like a charm and I do it when I'm not totally sure how much of the seed they've eaten...

What I usually do every morning is put the seeds on a plate, go outside and shake the plate (so the husks go on top), blow, then put fresh seeds at the bottom (only a little), then put the seeds from the plate in the holder!

I blow over the garbage can, but I always ending up sweeping up husks. I just keep a small broom and dustpan by the trash can so that it's a quick clean up. I love the idea of blowing them outside, but my 130 neighbors would probably hate bird seed flying onto their balconies.

I use a small straw, while the feeder is in the cage. Since the bottom half of my cage is enveloped with cloth, the husks stay on the bottom of the cage.

Ooh, I didn't even know this trick, thanks! I've been just eyeballing it to see when all the seeds have been hulled! :twothumbs:
