Smile Adjusting After House Move!

Hey everyone!

I hope I'm posting this in the right area... as it's semi budgie related and semi everything else!

Firstly, an apology for a lack of updates. We've moved house! All the way across the road from my mums! I'm finally an adult! And my goodness does having your own place take up a lot of time!! - Washing, ironing, dishes, grocery shopping, cleaning and then it all starts again! Why didn't anyone warn me?! Joking aside we are LOVING it - I really love having the house perfect!

Olaf is settling in well - he loves that not only does he now be in the living room most of the time; which is the hub of most activity; but he also has his own bedroom! An entire room scattered with his favourite perches around the room. For the most part his cage top can be open and he has free reign of the entire room all day long. Now he's more comfortable he's found his way into the living room if he's in his room; so he never gets lonely. He'll just fly into us and watch some telly! Then he clears off again to his room when he's had enough of us! Really like a little child! He especially enjoys that his bed time is more solid now; and isn't determined by my nocturnal lifestyle! He now gets a full proper nights sleep - something that always bothered me! If it gets past 10pm and he isn't in bed - he's a noisy boy!! We haven't had too much time for training recently but I'll be sure to post a pic or two soon! Sorry we missed out on the last competition! But we'll definitely be in on the next one!!

So as if the house move wasn't big enough... we also had another addition to our family.. a beautiful dog! Marley! He came a bit sooner than expected; we've always been a "dog family" so it was going to happen eventually; but this dog desperately needed rescued and was exactly the type of dog I have experience with so it FELT right even if the timing was slightly off. He's a Fourche Terrier which is quite rare here in Ireland - he's a cross between a full bred Yorkshire Terrier and West Highland White Terrier. He's got a great temperament and I think we rescued him from a pretty boring/uncomforable lifestyle. He's now so at home and relaxed with us.

Birds and dogs? - Despite Marley being a terrier by nature the two have adjusted to one another quite well. Naturally Marley was drawn to the cage overtime Olaf cheeped. Olaf didn't seem to mind; being on the higher ground, and in his own territory; he didn't seem to phased. A few solid "No's" and Marley now knows that Olaf's cage is off limits. It has adjusted a few things in that Olaf can't have 100% free reign of the house; but it does mean that if Olaf is in his bedroom he has the run of two massive rooms. And when one of us walks Marley, the other brings Olaf into the living room for a fly around there too. I'm trying to ensure a healthy amount of love and exercise for both without compromising the safety of either. Olaf really doesn't seem fussed but I wouldn't let them get to close!

Anyway - thats about all that's been going on with us! I haven't been in catching up as much because I just haven't had the time between everything!! It's so busy! But I really will try to check in more often!

Anyway - hope you're all getting ready for a lovely Easter! For those of you lucky enough to get a break from work - ENJOY IT!

If I don't see you before it have a great Easter but hopefully I'll be bringing TalkBudgies back into a part of my daily routine - just need to find an hour somewhere in the day

Although it's strictly not a budgie; I've attached a picture of Marley for you all to see

Matt, Olaf & Marley x

Hi, Matt!

Marley is adorable! How old is he -- do you know?
It's wonderful that you and your partner have worked out the arrangements so both Olaf and Marley are getting the time and attention they need without compromising Olaf's safety.

I enjoyed your update and hope you have a wonderful Easter!

Thanks a lot! I was worried I'd too much dog in my budgie post - had to make sure there was an even percentage! Haha!

Marley's license estimates him to be about a year and 8 months old. So he has most of the basics mastered but still has the playfulness of a puppy! Unfortunately not the weight of a puppy mind you! My mum is so used to our little frail toy yorkie who is a little old man now; Marley is a boisterous shock for her - she calls over and gives Marley and Olaf both some attention if we are out of the house for any long periods of time!

You can always post threads about "just" Marley in the "Other Pets" section of the forum and/or you can post in the "Chit Chat" forum too!

Of course, we DO like to hear about Olaf as well.

Sounds like this is an exciting time for you. Congratulations on all the good things you have going on. Your Olaf is quite handsome and I look forward to more pictures of him in the future. And checking out Marley on the other pets section!

Sounds like a fun and exciting time for you! Both Olaf and Marley sound like they are adjusting well.. You, on the other hand, must be exhausted..
Congratulations on the move.

Hi there and congrats on your new home! It sounds like everything is working out well.

I also have a terrier (mini schnauzer) in our flat. We separate them both for "outside" time, but Watson has learned that Sammy's cage is off limits. In truth, Watson is very scared of Sammy because he's been dive bombed once or twice when we were shooing Watson into the bedroom so Sammy could come out. Then we learned to put Watson away before letting Sammy out.

I am quite sure that they will get along well together once they both settle into their new environment.

Best of luck and welcome back!

Congratulations on your move to your new home!! Sounds like you will all be very happy there! Marley is a cutie!! Welcome to the joys of home owner! There are many four-letter words we never speak in my home...dust-ing, iron-ing, cook-ing, etc. But even with all that, it really is truly a blessing to have a place to call home!
