Default Check-List for Bringing Home First Budgie?

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone has a check-list for all of the things I need to get before I get my budgie. I've searched the board, but was hoping maybe I could get all the information in one place to make sure I don't end up missing something crucial!*

We've got one coming in a couple weeks from a local breeder and this board has been immensely helpful in figuring out the right questions to ask to make sure the breeder was ethical and responsible and we think we've found a great one. Just hoping someone can come through and help make the home-coming process as smooth and easy as possible!

*I had a budgie when I was little -- 25 years ago. I knew nothing then, and it ate an all-seed diet and lived (for 8 years) in a round cage. Yikes! Boy am I glad that there's so much more information readily available to make sure this next budgie has a happier, healthier environment!

Hi there! It sounds like you have some great advice. I just wanted to mention that the most important thing in your First Aid kit is a great avian vet. I didn't have one set up before getting Sammy, and it would have helped to take him for a well-birdie check-up and to have a plan ready to go when he got sick.

Best of luck and good job for researching before you bring home your budgie!

I appreciate the advice. We've found an avian vet who gets good reviews online and inquired about prices so we know what to expect! As soon as I know when our as-of-yet-unnamed little guy is coming home, the first thing I'm going to do is schedule a first visit.
