Question My budgie squeezes into tight spaces...is this normal?

On a previous thread I posted today I mentioned that I bought a new baby budgie ( 2 months old) from the pet store....and right now he seems very scared and frantic. He still continues to jump around the cage a lot and screech loudly. However, what I've noticed is that he has a habit of squeezing himself or trying to squeeze himself through very tight places in the cage while he is jumping around. For example, he likes to squeeze himself in the space between his food bowl and the cage wall and he also likes to squeeze inbetween the cage wall and his toys. These spaces are very cramped and I'm afraid he'll get hurt. Is this behavior normal?

Yes, it's quite normal for budgies to squeeze into tight places which is why it is always recommended that cage bars be spaced no more than 1/2" apart. With any wider spacing, a budgie can get his head stuck between the bars.

My big baby Budgie Albert just recently stopped doing that. He slept like that for naps and at night.

Yep. I've found budgies looking out at me from the most impossible places. One of mine even likes sitting in a shirt pocket. A lot of them seem to like tight places.

If your budgie is very scared still you might consider getting a little fabric tent for him to hide away in, like this one:

Here's a quick and simple tent you can make yourself (not my video):

I would not recommend getting one of the tents or snuggle-huts.
There are reports of budgies getting their toes caught in the material and severely injuring themselves.
