Default My Neighbours new aviary

Hello lovely people.

I live in a maisonette and my downstairs neighbours have a garden attached to their flat and they have just got 4 budgies in an outside aviary. All very cute, one is a very large yellow budgie, i've never seen one that big before! any ways i'm now worried about my little Pippin being in her cage up in my flat and being able to hear the budgies downstairs, they only got them today and she is replying to them, is this gonna drive her mad hearing them or is it actually gonna do the opposite and make her happy?!

many thanks

I'm sure it won't drive Pippin mad but It is hard to say if it will bring happiness either. I have dealt with that three different times when I brought my boy's home, and they had to be quarantined. Solomon would hear the girl's, and call back to them, settle down and lose interest pretty quick, I do think he found comfort in knowing other birds were around. Soterion could hear the other's, and he wanted out of the cage to go to them, and whenever he would hear them, he would pace back and forth across the front of the cage. I think he too found comfort in it but was more desiring to be with them than Solomon had seemed to be. Shiloh is a tiel and he couldn't stand being in the cage at all, and hearing the budgies actually seemed to settle him down. I guess all you can do is wait and see how pippin react's, as they all seem to feel differently about something like this...

Why dont you get Pippin a little friend. I think two birds are much happier than one. I have two new babies . One eight week and one nine weeks old. I got them a week and a half ago. From the same breeder i got my little Blue from who died in November.I was a bit wary of getting two.But am so happy i did. They do everything together. Share each others food dishes.
. If one goes on a swing, the other one will follow him. They kiss and chirp to each other. It is so sweet to watch. And although they have each got a rope perch at the same height at the top of the cage .They sleep on the same one Their names are Misty and Sky.

I agree with Randy and would give it some time to see how Pippin reacts.

Pippin will probably like knowing there are other budgies nearby.

Unless it appears as if Pippin is continually looking for them or trying to reach them then he'll be just fine as he is.

Thank you!

You guys are incredibly helpful.

I think if Pippin does show that she needs a friend i will definitely get another but i've never owned a budgie before so thought best to start with one.

I have indoor and outdoor birds. Currently there is only one indoor bird, the rest being either in breeding cages or hanging out in the young bird aviary. The adult aviary is under going a revamp

So anyway, when I had multiple indoor birds they neve showed much interest in the outdoor birds. Even know that Dandelion has sole occupancy of the indoor cage, he doesn't show much interest in the noise from the outdoor birds.

This is ulnlike when I was quatrantining birds inside the house. During these times the in residents birds would often go searching out the new comers. I have never had an indoor bird attempt to find the outdoor birds. I can only guess that they know the outdoor birds are a different flock or something, or maybe my birds just know that indoors is always better than outdoors

Oh thank you! my mind is totally at rest now.

I think i'm putting far too many of my human emotions on her. Something i worry about, Pippin probably doesn't give two figs about lol

I'm loving learning about budgie behaviour, i wish i had gotten one sooner but some reason people have always talked me out of it!

Hi Ann Louise. I had only ever had two budgies in my life before One called Beauty when i was very young .It was the familys budgie really. And the other one was called Blue . I loved him to bits. He died last year aged nearly three. So i was a bit scared of getting two birds together at once. But i am so glad i did. They are so cute together. Its really funny watching them. How they relate to each other. And it is no harder looking after two, than just one.
