I've been leaving a pie dish with a little water in it next to Buddy's favourite perching place when he is out of the cage. Most of the time, he just ignores it, or sits on the edge for a couple of seconds and has a drink.
Today though, he became very brave and dived straight in! He walked around in the water then had a really good splash about, soaking everything in sight!!! It was so lovely to watch!
His tummy and tail are now a totally different colour (a lot darker due to the water) and he's sitting on his favourite perch having a good preen. I assume once he dries he will return to his normal colour?
I hope he will continue to use his "bath", it looked like he was enjoying it!
Thanks everyone! I really wanted to stick with it, especially since he gets really excited when I turn the tap on in the kitchen. He's not brave enough to approach the sink, so I just kept bringing the water to him lol! Of course he has a water dish in his cage, but it's not really big enough for him to get into.
It was really fun to see him splashing around and fluffing up and wiggling his tail!
Ha ha! They love it don't they....well most of them. My last hen used to pretend to bathe! The 2 boys Benedict and Michael would really go for it, and Lucy used to perch on the edge and make all the motions without going in! Then afterwards she would flutter her feathers as if to shake off the water! Not sure who she thought she was fooling!
What pleasure to see your budgie bathe for the first time!
