Default Is vocal regurgitation normal?

(video posted) Occasionally my budgie will make a horrible coughing gagging noise repeatedly, sometimes for over a minute. And I'll notice that he regurgitates a whole seed. Is this typical? Is this him clearing his crop? He doesn't seem to be in distress, but it freaks me out every time! After he's spit it up, he stops and goes about his business.

No, I'm afraid that's not normal... In my 25+ years of budgie ownership I never had one who would do such a thing.
Maybe it's best to have him checked out and tested by and avian vet.
Good luck and I hope that your budgie will be rid of the coughing soon.

He's been to the avian vet twice this month. The first time I took him because I noticed he had some parasites crawling on the back of his neck. Took him to the avian vet the next day, he had a physical exam and was told he had feather louse, other than that he was healthy. I contacted the breeder I purchased him from to let him know his birds are probably infected. Since I just bought Yama from him less than a week before.

The most recent time was two weeks ago for respiratory distress, found out he had a upper respiratory infection. Yesterday was actually his last dose of antibiotics. He's doing much better!

I'll take him again. I just want him to be healthy but it's almost looking like an impossibility.

This is a video I shot of him doing the coughing, you can see towards the end that he spits up a seed...

Sorry to see your bird like this....watched the video and it's definitely not normal. Has he been doing this before you started giving him antibiotics or this has started after the medication? I think he's having some digestion issues. Please get him checked with a vet. I pray for your bird's good health.

He's done it both before and after the medication. I don't know if I have the resources to keep taking him to the vet...my friend who referred me to the breeder I bought him from strongly suggests I take him back to the breeder... I've barely had him two months and have already spent over 300 dollars in vet bills. I really care about this bird, but I don't think I can take the emotional and financial stress... I know it makes me sound like a horrible and selfish person but I don't know if I can provide the care he needs especially if it's a chronic issue. I'll take him to the vet once I get some extra money and I'll see what the vet suggests.

Did you mention the cough during one of your vet's appointments?
It seems the meds she was on weren't able to cure her and this may very well still be related to the respiratory infection/flu and the cough is so strong that she sometimes gets an odd seed out from all the strain caused by the coughing.
I say "she" because from the video it's pretty clear you have a budgie girl there.

Why don't you call your vet and explain the situation since you've taken your budgie in for treatment twice recently.

Many vets will work out a payment plan with you so you can ensure your budgie receives the proper medical treatment she deserves.

Thanks for the advice, I'll call the vet tomorrow and see wgat kind of payment plans they offer.
I had no clue Yama was a girl. I figured it was too early to determine the sex, but I'll take your word for it. Wasn't planning on getting a hen, but that's what happens when you get a baby! Good to know!

Any new developments on your bird? Did the vet offer you a convenient payment plan?
