Talking Bonding Budgies/Cagemates

So my friend's friend is giving away her little budgie and has asked me if I wanted to take him in. I currently have Two males (cagemates) and one female (caged by herself). I was actually thinking about moving one of the males in with the female since they seem to be getting a long when I let them out together. The other male however would be alone if I moved his cagemate in with the female. He does not hang out with the female because they were cagemates once and it did noooot work out. She was super aggressive towards him for whatever reason.
So I'm wondering if you guys think it's a good idea to bring this other budgie in as a cagemate for the male who would be left alone. The other budgie is also male so I'm less worried about fighting/aggression (is this correct?). Is it okay to have male+male pair instead of a male+female pair. If I get this other male budgie I will not be getting anymore budgies.

also i will quarantine, no worries

I think that might work well, just remember to quarantine the new fellow for a month first...

Male budgies ususally get along well.

When quarantine is over, you'll want to introduce the two in neutral territory and completely rearrange the cage (perches, toys, food and water dishes) before allowing them back in it.
This should help minimize the current male becoming too territorial when another bird moves into "his" cage.

Placing a male in with the female you will have to be aware of mating behaviours when they come into condition, how old is the hen ? Good luck with your flock and it sounds like you have a good knowledge of responsible ownership.

Yep, after quarantine I plan on letting them play during outside cage time first, then once they seem to be getting along for a while I'm going to move perches/toys around and move them in together.

I just moved one male in with the female together yesterday they seem to be doing okay. No fighting thus far. I just moved some of his perches/toys in and moved stuff around, opened her door and he flew right in lol. Then I just closed the door.
The girl is probably about 1 year old now, maybe even a few months older. I don't plan on breeding so I don't have anything comfy/cozy/nest-like in their cage. I'll know if she comes into condition if her cere turns brown right?

That seems like a good plan.

I moved my female from one male to another. They didn't get along very well (they were rescues). I noticed that Lola kept looking at Maurice in the other cage and they seemed to have some connection, so I put her in with Maurice. They absolutely love each other, no mating happening.
Now Louis seems fine on his own.

I'm glad everything is working out for Maurice and Lola.

I know from your other thread your new little budgie (Dante) is in with Louis and learning all the important things about how to be a budgie!

This thread has served it's purpose and is now closed.
