Default New budgie in my home

Hello, everyone.

I just got my first bird pet ever. It is female budgie. My brother named her Ada(She is the first programmer in the world, so my brother chose it since he is a programmer too). My question is next: My budgie is like 4-5 months old. I got her last Saturday, so it's been like 5 days since then. I change water and food daily. There is one question that bothers me. Is she a little old to be tame ? Some good advices would be useful, since i am new to this. Thanks..

Welcome to the forums and the ever exciting world of budgie ownership!
You came to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.
Since you are new to budgies and pet birds in general, I suggest you start by reading the info at the Diet and Nutrition as well as the Training and Bonding sections of the forums for all the valuable info.

To answer your question, it's never too late to tame a budgie.
It is easier to work with them when they are young and your budgie at 4 - 5 months old is still fairly young, so you shouldn't have a problem in forming a bond over time. Another thing to consider is the budgie's personality, budgies who are more shy are more difficult to tame when compared to budgies who show more confidence and are more outgoing.
Take some time to get to know your budgie and try not to rush through things for the first couple of weeks when it comes to training.
This is a learning process for both you and your budgie, so it's best to start with baby steps, read your budgie's body language and when you see she is receptive to you by coming closer to you while in the cage and showing curiosity, then you can begin by slowly putting your hand in the cage and teaching the step up command.

Best of luck with your budgie and feel free to post some pics of her when you have the time.

Hello, guys.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I put a swing toy in Ada's cage, but somehow she doesn't seem interested in it. Why could it happen ? It is positioned parallel to one of the perches where she loves to sit, so it could be easier for her to hoop on the swing. Some advices please ?

It takes awhile for budgies to become accustomed to and try new things so t is very important that you accept your budgie must be allowed to do things in its time-frame - not when you think it should do so.

It took my little Sunny almost a full month before he was willing to play with toys. Once he discovered he likes them he's had lots of fun with them.

Hi and Welcome..
I am happy to see you are asking questions. I'm fairly new to budgies, too, and I asked so many questions at first. Everyone was super supportive and gave me great advice.
So, with that in mind, the most valuable piece of advice I think anyone gave me is to be patient with your little friend. It seems these little goofballs do things in their own way in their own time. Just spending time around them increases their trust in you and I think they need to trust you before they consider letting you near them.
Welcome again, and yes, photos please!
