Default Your opinion on this stuff (pictures)

Hello wonderful budgie lovers

I hope youíre all doing well and having great moments with your lovely budgies.

Last week I purchased some items online for my budgie that I will bring home soon. Iím preparing everything for him first so heíll be happy and comfortable. Unfortunately, in Morocco we have a few pet shops in the big cities. I visited them all but they were all focusing on dog/cat stuff and I found no bird toys or good accessories like I see on foreigner videos lol. So, I ended up purchasing them online from PetSmat website in USA.

Today, I received my box and I want to share with you the stuff I bought and ask your opinion.

Here we go:

Some perches (rope perches, edible perch, sand perch)

Some bowls and feeders

Food & treats (seeds, millets, honey sticks, cuttlebones)

Grooming and health care (bath, bath spray, mister, mite & lice bird spray)

Some Toys and a playground

I also got these dowels but Iíll use them to make some homemade honey sticks instead of buying them.

I hope I made a good choice. Next step is to find a good cage.
Please, if you think I should get anything or if you have any question, donít hesitate to mention it. This forum has been a great help to me!

Love you guys

That's a nice selection of "stuff". A variety of perches is good - just be careful with the rope perches in case your budgie decided to try to eat them. I got one recently and will probably remove it because my bird chews on it and is at risk of getting her little feet stuck when the material becomes lose.

I think most members here prefer for food dishes not to be plastic. However, I actually do use plastic and personally find the coloured ones are accpeted the most by my bird.

Try out the bath and see. If might take a while for your bird to accept the bath. My previous bird didn't mind the bath being closed. The one I have now would not get in a closed bath. Time shall tell what's right...

Great toy selection. My Jakob would love to come play with all those colourful toys! Bells are fun for making noise

Awesome selection of thing's, I have several of the same sand perches. As far as cages go, wider is better than taller, and the biggest you have room for, and money for is alway's the best. I would recommend shopping around for some organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother" in it for use in your bird's water. ...

Looks like a great start... Mine love that Snack Shack perch.. it's a big hit here.. I know you have to watchful with the rope perches, but... they also are a hit around here. You seem to have thought of most everything..
I think you got a swing?? It seems they love swings..
Good luck... be sure to send us a pic when your cage s set up?? Please?

Hi Amin,

Wow your soon to be feathered friend will be one happy little bird
My only concern is the rope perches - fibres can cause very serious health issues to birds if eaten and birds do love to nibble at everything. I would stick to wooden perches to be safe. My avian vet has written articles on the dangers of using rope toys and fluffy things as toys. I've also seen some graphic pictures on his website of post surgery removals of what he's had to remove as a result of this. I personally steer well clear from rope toys and snuggle huts. The only fleece my bird gets is a blanket that goes over a bed sheet that covers his cage at night.

I hope this is helpful.

Niamh

Welcome Amin, it is very satisfying to see you are preparing for your budgie's arrival, I would add if at all possible to start a first aid kit for your budgie.
I have some rope perches and my birds love them I do check them regularly and any sign of loose threads or heavy soiling from poops I discard them and buy new ones. It is a personal choice.
Read through the information faeryBee has provided and you will be on your way to becoming an excellent Budgie owner!

Thank you for your advice guys I really appreciate your opinions

I didn't know that budgies chew on the rope perches. You made me aware of that. So, I'll probably use the rope perches outside the cage when I have tamed the budgie and let him out to explore my room

I didn't buy wooden perches because we have two lemon trees in the garden. I'll make some perches myself. I read some topics here on how to clean and bake the wood. You guys rock!!!

Next week, I'll go to the market and look for a nice big cage. I hope I'll find what I want and not have to buy it online again (surely it will be damaged on the way)

Thanks to everyone!
