Default Newbie questions

1) English vs American - The last time I had budgies they were the American variety, and I have always loved them. This time around I'm thinking of the English type. I've read that English budgies, aside from being generally larger, also are a little easier to tame, a little more quiet and generally more docile. Would people here agree with this?

2) I was thinking that I would buy the first one as a baby and then a few months later (how many? I'm not sure) get the second baby. I figure that would give me time to spend some one-on-one time with him/her and get him/her on the way to being trained before the second one arrives.

Thoughts?

Thank you!!

Although many members will tell you their English are quieter and much more docile than American budgies, MINE are the exception to that rule.

Skipper and Scooter (full English) are quite vocal and extremely active. They love chirping at full volume, Skipper also talks and both adore zooming around the downstairs at full speed as if it is the Indianapolis 500 speedway and my head is the finish line! Even my little Sparky who is a 50/50 English/American is quite vocal, loves to fly and plays with all the toys in his cage rotating from one to the other.

I'd recommend getting one baby and then waiting 3-6 months before getting the second one. That will give you time to bond closely with the first baby. When you bring the second one home and have him in quarantine for the 4-6 week period, you can give him lots of individualized one-on-one attention and work on establishing a good bond with him before the two are ever introduced.

I think you will enjoy English budgies, I certainly enjoy mine. I agree with Deb, mine aren't docile but I wouldn't call them hyper either...I think getting them as Deb suggested would be a good idea for the best outcome concerning their future relationship with you....
