Here are the new arrivals in their transport cage before installing in quarantine.
On the left we have Hugo, he is the hungry one ie he was first to find the food! His flight feathers have yet to grow properly.
On the right we have Demelza, so far the most attentive and keen to communicate. If I had to predict, I would say that she will lead the flock after a year or so.
In the middle we have Lily, with chiselling good looks.
Lily is a disabled budgie who will never fly and never have a tail according to Mark, my local breeder. I fell in love with her immediately and wanted to give her a good chance at a happy life. As Mark said, no one will want her, but I did. Benedict will take care of her I am sure. He himself cannot fly due a genetic defect in his wing, and is such a gentle bird that I know he will look out for her. I have told her she will be a much loved part of our budgie family.
They are all very settled now after 2 days, and taming is in full swing. Poor old Benedict knows something is going on, but of course will not meet them for a while!
I will post more pics once the imminent moults are over and I can show them to you all out of the cage(s). In the meantime, individual attention for 3 new birds is extremely time consuming! But it's a labour of love!!!
