Default Three Friends for Benedict

Here are the new arrivals in their transport cage before installing in quarantine.

On the left we have Hugo, he is the hungry one ie he was first to find the food! His flight feathers have yet to grow properly.
On the right we have Demelza, so far the most attentive and keen to communicate. If I had to predict, I would say that she will lead the flock after a year or so.
In the middle we have Lily, with chiselling good looks.

Lily is a disabled budgie who will never fly and never have a tail according to Mark, my local breeder. I fell in love with her immediately and wanted to give her a good chance at a happy life. As Mark said, no one will want her, but I did. Benedict will take care of her I am sure. He himself cannot fly due a genetic defect in his wing, and is such a gentle bird that I know he will look out for her. I have told her she will be a much loved part of our budgie family.

They are all very settled now after 2 days, and taming is in full swing. Poor old Benedict knows something is going on, but of course will not meet them for a while!

I will post more pics once the imminent moults are over and I can show them to you all out of the cage(s). In the meantime, individual attention for 3 new birds is extremely time consuming! But it's a labour of love!!!

Simon,

Your three new arrivals are lovely! Congratulations.
I'm particularly pleased you chose darling Lily and know you and Benedict will make sure she has a wonderful life with lots of love and attention.

I'll be looking forward to more pictures in the days to come.

Thank you Deb. She really is a little sweety with hidden depths! Once she properly gets the hang of clambering she will be fine, of course she can't leap very well because she has no tail for balance. But my recently deceased hen Lucy clambered everywhere out of choice even though she had a full tail, could fly and leap if she wanted to - so I have no worries about Lily. At the moment she is taking her food from the floor and the poor little hen keeps getting pooped on! But I am sure she will eventually get the hang of perch feeding from a hopper like the others do!

Congratulations on your latest arrivals!
By looking at Lily it seems she has French moult and her feather condition can improve a bit if she's on a special diet to cater all her needs for the constant regrowth and falling off of feathers.

Best of luck with her, Hugo and Demelza!

Congratulations on three very pretty new arrivals! I'm so glad you were the one to give Lily a comfortable and loving forever home.

I can't wait for Benedict to meet them, I love them and hope to hear regular updates and see lots of pictures soon!

Congratulations Simon, on your new additions I can't see the pics here though.

Edit: I can now see the pic! They are all beautiful too . I hope Benedict won't be overwhelmed with 3 new roommates at once!

Thanks Julie, glad you can see them now. Yes, I hope Benedict won't be overwhelmed too! But I have the feeling he will be like a kiddy in a sweet shop at first, and then become "daddy of them all"!! We are some way off introductions yet, but they have been calling to eachother! The babies are quiet this morning, but probably because they haven't stopped eating for 48 hours! What a hungry lot!

Thank you Niamh. Yes, I hope they all get along too, it's such a lottery isn't it? We have already had some cage politics with the babies, and their pecking order has been established - poor Hugo is at the bottom of it, but then again he is a little younger than the others. And anyway, what chance would he realistically have of leading with 2 hens there when he is on his own?! I am hoping that on introduction, as Benedict is an adult they will all immediately give him respect and so fall onto line. This has always happened with previous introductions. Fingers crossed!!
