I haven't been here in awhile and I hope you remember me. My birds are Sunshine and Sunburst, picked them up at the Human Society on January 15th and introduced my self a few days later.
I believe that My birds have had no interaction with humans, that they were just left in the cage.
I am happy to report that they are doing real good. They both talk constantly. They are still a little afraid with mine and my sons hands in the cage. I have gotten them to take a little mallet out of my hand, this is without getting my fingers to close to them. They stay on the bottom perch when we walk up to the cage and listen to us.
This is where I feel that I have made progress with them. My son and I have been using a perch with our hands and getting them to step up on it. They only stay there for a few seconds. Sunshine (yellow) is more likely to go on more easily, Sunburst (white) is harder. But this is the funny part. Today Sunshine was clinging to the front bars of the cage, and Sunburst was clinging to the back bars. I went to get Sunburst on and Sunshine came flying over and landed on the perch, I then had the both of them on the perch. I gently put both of them on their regular perch.
I don't mind it taken so long, it is just such a joy to watch and listen to them. They both have their own personality's.
I hope that this hasn't been to long of post.
It certainly sounds like you've done a fabulous job and been very patient with these pretty little birds. Seems like budgies are often frightened and you had a much bigger challenge with these guys who had not been handled and possibly neglected.
I think it's awesome you took in two rescue birds and have given them a better life.
Hi, and welcome back!
It's good to have you back with us again.
I remember when you got Sunburst and Sunshine.
They are such cute little budgies and it's awesome you've made the progress you have with them.
They are SO fortunate you came into their lives and are giving them the safe and loving home and TLC they never got to experience before!
Hope to see you around more frequently and I look forward to future updates and pictures of Sunshine and Sunburst.
What a wonderful catch up thread! So happy for you and your two rescues. Sounds like they are gaining trust and giving back to you in their way. Love to see some more pictures and hear how they are progressing soon.
They seem to like it when I sing You are my Sunshine (or Sunburst) to them. And my son has been whistling to them and they are picking that up. I love to hear them talking to themselves quietly.
Also I have a Miniature Schnauzer, when she is running around the house her tags clank together. They both get very excited and go to the side of the cage and try to look down to see what is making all the noise.
