I literally JUST got our budgie today! The husband and I talked it over and decided we wanted one. He had multiple birds as a kid and our family had one, but it has been many years for us. We got him/her from a local pet store. So far, it's really scared- read the when you bring them home thread! I am kind of putting it off in a different room, just because we had a 4 year old who is fairly loud ALL the time, lol.
We would like to know the sex of the bird so we can name it properly and if we ever want to get another later on down the road.
-We do know that it is at least 3 months old, maybe a little older but not much.
-Pet store girl said if the cere is blue it's female, but I came home a researched a little and the girl is wrong. Tan/brown= female, blue= male, is what I get from it.
-At this point, I am saying female for ours, but it's tricky. The cere seems to be a LIGHT blueish with a bit of purpleness to it, but whiteish rings around its nose holes (which could mean female). Help?
If anyone could help. I read some of the guidelines for posting pictures to sex the bird. I shall try. Pictures are in windowed light, no flash. Can't take bird out so had to take picture through the bars, lol.
Your new little female budgie is absolutely precious!

Welcome to Talk Budgies! Congrats on deciding to get a new little friend--your little girl is absolutely precious. Don't worry, she'll settle in soon. To make her feel more at home, you can cover the cage with a light sheet partway, play soft music, and talk reassuringly to her
After she's settled in for a couple of weeks, you can start taming her.
Your crazy 4-year-old will have great appreciation for birds, I'm sure
Let us know what you name her! It's great to have you with us
and Princess Mallorn!
Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
